The Top out and Bottom out springs in my 79 MX-6 175 35mm forks are all 4 broken and I am looking for suitable replacements. The Bottom out springs are approximately 3" long and 2.4mm diameter wire and the Top out springs are approximately 1-3/8" long and 2.8mm diameter wire.
The 79 parts manual shows the bottom out springs part # 514210 or 514171 and the top out springs are part # 514109. Evidently the previous owner ran the forks out of oil, which I am sure contributed to the broken springs. Anything close would be helpful. Mike

My Jan 79 book says 514109 for the spring that sits above the main spring. And 514171 for the top out spring?? i have springs from a 1980 35mm fork. one is 2.75 inches long with 4.25 wire. The other spring is 1 inch with 3mm wire, if those would do any good. If the 3 inch one is for the top of the main spring these 4.25 wire dia should work better.  2.4 spring is very soft for a fork spring and I would think would just collapse when you even just sit on the bike??  Maybe not orig? Also have a complete set of 80/81 35mm forks with the "fluted" rods and straight tubes. 10.6 inch travel but could be shortened with top out spacers and spacers instead of the 2.75 inch long top springs.  How much travel did the 79 35mm forks have?

Mike, I would definitely try those springs. The long spring goes on the bottom, and compresses when the forks bottom out (bottom out), and the short goes on top and cushions the forks on full extension, (top out). My email is [email protected] maybe I'm referring to them backward in operation, but that is where they go in position in the forks. Mike
