74, 125-6 Days. Running good however the downshifting is a problem - can't seem to get it downshift correctly and keeps getting stuck in a higher gear, etc.  Can anyone tell me what the problem could be ?

G Ellis

Need to adjust shifter linkage.

Mickey Sergeant

That's also assuming if all is shimmed correct internally

This should help.  Trying this is easy then if it works you do not have to worry about internal shimming.

First back off on the down-shift  ( over shift)  cam lobe, make sure the selector pawl is not (looks like wings) touching to close and is blocking  your down shifts....MOST  of the time this will solve it ...

Gooddirt makes a good point.

I'm not fully understanding - is there some kind of procedure available to adjust ? my email is [email protected]

ccmnova

being told that the case has to be split to change the shift key, etc.  Is this correct ?  I saw in one of the write ups that the key can be changed with a pencil magnet (?)

Mickey Sergeant

This is a way I use to get an idea if things are shimmed correct. grab the counter sprocket and pull it in and out. there should be no play. With the clutch basket off, grab the clutch boss, there should be no play there. If there is play then not shimmed correct internally. You will never be able to adjust the sifting device correct

Hope this helps

I'm in the Pittsburgh area and can bring my bike anywhere within say 4 hours drive - do any of you know a capable shop or mechanic who can do this shifter adjustment procedure for me - ?

Larry Perkins

Mickey is correct. Improper internal shimming and you will constantly adjust and never quite get there allowing MANY false neutrals.  Doug Wilford was the wiz at shimming and it is why his motors shifted as well as they did.  Of course Doug could also adjust with a blind fold on.

50/50 chance it the cam lobe... as he can up shift fine and said it did not miss a shift... this is my base line, try the easy way first...  [:p]

Still looking for someone who is capable to make this adjustment - can anyone recommend a shop or ?
