Hi Penton group,

I am, reluctantly, selling my 1973 Penton Hare Scrambler.

Asking price is $4,000. You can find all kinds of details on the bike's restoration on the forum. To the best of my knowledge and compared to the engine number register, this is the second lowest engine number in the US. I would be happy to post more pictures. I have a detailed photo documentation (two pdf-files) of the restoration process and a listing (with receipts) of all parts used in the process. The price of all parts used in the bike is about $5,000. Contact me if you have questions.

Cheers

Andreas

What is the frame serial number?  Looks like a 74 model to me.

Andreas, you did one heck of a job on the rebuild and restoration, and presented some of the best photos of the process I have ever seen posted on any web site. If I had a stack of money sitting here to buy the bike, I would do so with out any hesitation or reservations about anything related to it. Good luck with the sale and besides mine, I hope the bike goes to a good home!
   Happy Holidays!

That is a 74 model as everything made after August is the next yhear.

Daniel thanks for the encoragement. Larry, the casting clock on the engine shows 3/73. I can post a picture should that be wanted.

Engine casting date is only when the bare casting was made and has little to do with the actual finish date of the bike. The bike is definitely a 74. I have a 310 dated 74 on the frame which is October of 73 making it a 1974 as well, which is earlier than yours, possibly one of the first red tank Hare Scramblers. 73's were yellow. Mike

Hi Andreas, I'm sorry to see your '73 HS for sale. Hope nothing serious behind your decision.
As others before me have said, you did a really great job on this bike and left us on the site a lot of documentation of your restoring process.
I hope you get a lot more of your starting bid price.

Cheers,

Michele.

Nice job good luck!  Among other things I would think that the diameter of the kicker shaft would be a telltale as to how it was born.  But a sweet bike!  I had one very similar to this and the power in that 250 was remarkable as compared to contemporaneous bikes.

Hi Marsattacks,

The bike originally had a 14 mm kick starter shaft. I converted it to a 17 mm shaft to avoid trouble down the road. This work is documented, with pictures, on the forum.

Maybe to clarify things the chassis of your bike is definitely a 74 including all of the body work. The engine does appear to be an early 73, not necessarily the original engine, or possibly a held over for minor repair before installation engine. The serial number on my 10/73 built bikes engine is 1968, and it is not a black engine. Mike

Michael, these are all reasonable possibilities. I simply don't know any more about the history of any of these numbered components.
