74 1/2 Penton 250 Hare Scrambler. Working with a chain guide and best I can tell the rear tire gets into the inside bracket on this set up.
The one I am working with is almost against the tire and when I try to pull away the guide is out of alignment with the sprocket.
Is there a difference in the lengths of these guides? It seems if the brackets were longer (putting guide closer to sprocket) that more clearance would be achieved. This is not the forged set up. It is the set up with an inside and outside aluminum bracket.

I had the same issue. Running a 110 width tire. Ended up putting a Carl Cranke brake stay on it which Seems like a better set up anyway. Have not tried a 100 width tire, it may clear ok.

Thanks for the reply Carl! Is there a source for the Carl Cranke set up? Al maybe?

I think Al has the aluminum arm but not the spring loaded tensioner.  You can mount a standard guide block to it.

Al still has some of the Carl Cranke guides in gold anodized.  Much better setup and the guide bolts right up to it.  But sounds like you have a too wide a tire to me.  Most modern 100/100-18 will work fine.  If you are running a 110 or 120 that will normally be too wide.

Really on the tire size?  I run a 100 on my 175 XC and a 120 on my MC 250.  The 120 is about the same as a 4.50 for most tire makers.  The second number (in this case 100) is the percentage of the tire height to the width.  So, with a 100/100 the height is the same as the width.  I would think that the spacing on the swing arm for a 74.5 would be the same as my 76.....

The spacing probably is the same between the 74.5 and your 76 cross country, but are you running the full aluminum shielded chain guard on your 76 cross country, or have you installed just the aluminum girder, like your MC5? Mike

I am running the stock full aluminum shield on the XC.  On my MC5, I have installed a custom shield since I am running the bike in the woods.

I'll run the Carl Cranke set up and shelf the original. I like running the 110/100 tire.

Sounds like a plan!

I have a 74 1/2 Hare scrambler also.  I decided to take a sharp sculpting knife to the outside 1/8 inch or so of the most outside knobby.  Worked just fine, would take a serious look to even notice.
