E Track vs. Wheel Chocks

Hi All,
I'm going to buy an enclosed trailer in the next couple weeks.  I like the E-track system as an option, but do I need to use wheel chocks when using e-track?  

What about D-rings? Do I need to cut holes in the floor for the rings to fit recess, or are they spaced up?  

I don't really want to drill big holes in the floor of my new trailer.

Mick, my trailer has four wheel chocks and D rings in the floor and in the walls. Additionally I added three pieces of e-track with Associated clip-in tethered rings to attach the tie down straps to the bike especially to locate the rear wheels to limit movement, where there were no D rings close by. With a proper backing plate, these are rock solid.  I've had the same three pair in the beds of two Rangers with over three decades of exposure and no failures.

I have a 7 x 10 Wells Cargo cycle wagon. They are set up from the factory with D rings in the walls and the floors and two removable pingle wheel chocks and I added another one in the center facing rearward, and one across the back for a 100cc or smaller bike. If you are adding D rings to a trailer you need to cut the hole to recess it, although there may be some versions that are angled upward around the exterior that mount flush. Generally speaking those are not as heavy duty as the ones that are recessed. You should also put reinforcing plates on the bottom side of the trailer for the bolts to go through. With e tracks you can attached 6 inch ringed tethers, and either use large washers to reinforce the underneath side of the trailer or make plates, to keep the bolts from pulling through under extreme stress or age. If you are going to buy a new trailer you can order it with the Rings already installed and will come with the reinforcing plates, but if buying a used trailer you're at the mercy of how it was originally outfitted. I have a combo of E track, chocks and D rings. I have track on the floor and the walls, makes tie down pretty flexible.

I do the combo thing also, chocks up front and "E" track down the floor (3 strips).  6' x 12' can haul 4 bikes or anything else I want, mowers, appliances, bodies, etc.  Good luck!

I bought a new 6x12 v-nose single axle trailer about 15 years ago. I set it up with two pieces of e-track on the trailer floor installed across the trailer, one near the front and one about middle of trailer. I bought my chocks from Mackie Enterprises out of NJ which are like item #112950209856 on eBay. You can get these chocks with the track mounts attached to the front and rear legs so they can easily be staggered when snapped into the etrack. Yes my tiedown rings go in the same etrack as the wheel chocks.
