Hi Penton Group,

I am trying to sell my 1973 Penton Hare Scrambler in GS trim. The bike and frame are dated 1973 but the bike is in 1974 configuration. You can find quite a few entries about the rebuilding of this bike here on the forum. The bike is advertised on eBay:  https://www.ebay.com/itm/332731044645. There you can find more details, pictures and a running clip. I set the starting bid to $4000. This is considerably below what went into the rebuild. I hate to sell the bike but do that new heating for the house. PM me for questions or inquires.

It is a 1974.  1973 production ended in August 73 as always with KTM.
Yours was built in November if I remember right.

Larry I don't think anybody can know when these bikes were put together without looking through the factory records. The casting clock on my engine reads March 1973. This doesn't mean that the bike was assembled in March but it doesn't say November either. The facts are: all year indicators on the bike say 1973 but it is in 1974 configuration. According to the POG register its engine number is the second lowest known in the US. I claimed no more.

I would have to agree with Larry, I have an early Red Tank 74 250 Hare Scrambler, and your frame has 74 rear fender mounts, and the date of build is in November (311). Engines were grabbed from stock piles not necessarily in order of build. Mike

One thing we all can agree on. Its a PENTON! One of the best if not the BEST bikes of its time. For Sure[:p]

In my opinion an early 74 Hare Scrambler is worth as much as a 73, so that's really not an issue. Mike
