I've been working on a 1976 125 GS motor and it's time to replace both sprockets. Currently it's 13/53. I believe stock was 12/52. It will have a new 520 standard chain. I'll be slow trail riding at the farm. I'm open to any gearing suggestions.

From past experiance I say no smaller than a 13 on the front. Free advice & worth every Penny![:p]

Gary...how does that 13/56 set up work for you? My plan is to trail ride it on my farm. I'm not interested in getting and keeping it on the powerband, just easy riding for a 68 year young guy.

It works great, this is how I set up all my bikes.

To Gary Ellis...Do you happen to remember, or could you check, the number of links of chain you use on this 13/56 setup? Currently I have a new DID 520 standard, 130 link chain I planned to use. I'll also be replacing the current sprockets with 520 sprockets.

Thanks

130 links will work, you will have to cut a few off.

Thanks Gary...I know I can always depend on your knowledge.

One more question: What performance change will I experience going from the 12/52 stock set up to your 13/56? Hopefully it will make the KTM 125 easy to control at low speed. I plan to cow trail it on the farm most of the time but also make a short blast down a dirt road every so often.

1st gear will be real low. You will run 2nd,3rd most of the time. top end will suffer a little.

Perfect....Thanks Gary
