I'm looking to have a gear made.  Does anyone know of a machine shop that does small run items?

Yeah, I'm not dealing with someone half way around the world.  The shipping alone will make it unaffordable.  With all the machine shops here in the US, there has to be someone that is willing to make them.

Mike,
Yes and no.  It is the kick starter idle gear for my 82 PE 175.  Nobody has one in stock, new or used, so I guess it is now a custom gear.

There must be some retired machinist with machines at home who could tackle your project. I could always find someone to build aircraft parts when I was in that business. Your biggest hurdle is material specs and heat treating. Look into gunsmiths and expand your search from there

I have a friend who is both a machinist and a gunsmith.
I will check with him and get back to you.
I really enjoyed reading James' member profile in the latest Still Keeping Track.
I remember being at a 500GP in Quebec and Pat Moroney was riding a Husky in the 250 support class. He crashed, rang his bell and I helped him back to the pits. Would like to meet him some day and see if he recalls the incident.

Hey Mike, glad you enjoyed the read!  I appreciate your reaching out to your friend. If he needs a photo for review I can email some to you. I was probably at that 500GP with Pat. I was on my Penton 250.  He and I did a lot of traveling together.

What is the part# on the gear? I looked up the gear I think you need. #26240-14100. It also superceeds with Last 5 numbers 41300, 40201. The same gear is listed for those years RM-125 if checking on used. Dave

Hey Dave, the part number is 26260 41502.  It is used in the PE 175 1980-1984, and the RS 175 1980, 1981.  The RM gear is different.  Thanks for your help!

Ok now I see which one. There is 1 listed from UK for $75 on ebay# 164947618236. Also a few tranmissions listed that would have taken that gear off to disassemble and may have one if you ask. Dave

Dave, close but no cigar....  it is the 6th gear, not the idle gear, different part number.  Thanks anyway.

Yep. Sorry, got fooled on that part # search. Back to the used trans ads. Good luck.
