Hi, Around 7 yrs. ago I had an aluminum BSA tank repaired by a guy in Florida named Dick Greene, he did an excellent job. I can't seem to find him now. I was hoping maybe someone knows or heard of him or knows someone else that repairs dents in aluminum gas tanks. This is a small Hi-Point tank with a pretty mild dent, has anyone ever attempted pulling one out themselves.
Thanks for your help.

rob, There are specialists that are doing "paintless dent repair". They offer their services to new car dealerships,etc.. It is a system of spoons and rods to work out dents from the inside. It may do the trick for you. Do a search on the web for more info. Some body shops may offer this too.- Tom

Hi Bob, if the tank just has a "pocket dent" and is not creased it can be fixed with a small dent puller.  I have one called the "Ding King" and it has worked for me on my steel Husky tanks.  If you're going to be at Western Reserve, Saddleback or Red Bud for the Great Lakes regionals I can bring it and give it a try.  We'll just need a little electricity!

Rob, I can't remember where I got the tool, Wal-Mart maybe?  I'm sure it was a store like that, though.  I've got a contact phone number I'll get for you and maybe they can tell you their outlet stores.

The 250 is getting closer.  I can't make Portland.  Too bad, I know it's almost your back yard!  I'm shooting for the Saddleback race in Kentucky, then Western Reserve and Red Bud as the races for the bike.

I've got an old stop bumper if you need to do some destructive testing.

How are you doing?  I heard about your fall at VMD.  Must of been a nasty pile-up.

If you're serious about this and want the tank done properly and for a reasonable price, there is a guy near Ailsa Craig, Ontario (near London; not actually too far from where you are), whose specialty is the repair of alloy tanks. He has been at this for a long time and has an excellent reputation in the vintage M/C community in Ontario.
Contact Ross Thompson at: (519)232-4708 or, [email protected] (maybe that should be "execulink": I'm not sure if my source here is a typo or not.) Let me know if there's a problem.
