Can you guess the rider's name on the homepage?

http://www.pentonusa.org/index.html

We'll leave it up to all the "POGers" to answer this amongst themselves.

Look for the homepage photo to change monthly with a new mystery rider each time.

If you have any good photos for the home page, please email them to [email protected]. If we don't use them on the homepage, we will use them on other future website pages.

I know he was great at Stone Mountain and he lived VERY close to the Pentons.  One might say he lived with the Pentons.

I could tell better who it is if he was wearing orange coveralls. The kind they used to wear at the Ford plant. But with out them I'm lost?

I'm not sure who it is from ethis picture, but I bet I might recognize the fine gentlman if he were sitting on a modern Yamaha.

Looks like this photo was taken in March 1968 in Dalton GA on Penton #003. Must have been waiting for the Stone Mountain Enduro.

Thats exactly where it was taken.  Check out the shoes he was using to break it in real slow.

It's not John Penton but it's the guy that is always signing John's name for autograph seekers and getting his picture taken by John's long lost friends.

I'll confess this picture is Al Born, aka John Penton.  This picture was taken in Dalton, Georgia the day before the 1968 75 Mile National Enduro, known as the Stone Mountain Enduro.

This motorcycle was No. V003 and I was the first person to purchase a Penton motorcycle.  If anyone tells you that the early Pentons do not have titles, that is not true, as I still have the original title and the original bill of sale, signed by JAP himself.

Kip Kern restored this bike in the spring of 2000 and it was the featured bike for Vintage Days East that year.  It has been in the Hall of Fame Museum since September 2001.

By the way, it won its class at Stone Mountain right out of the crate.  So Ron Carbaugh and Donny Smith knew what they were talking about.

Happy motorcycling you all,
Al Born, Penton No. 3

Howdy and welcome newcomer Al! Or should I say Mr. Secretary, in reality you were and always will be the first POG member some 35 years ago. Yes, when they film the "John Penton" story, you can be his stunt double. Did you just get a computer so you can teach the other Al B. how to "log on". It's always great to hear from you Al.
Thanks,
Bob

Not only has Al Born been mistaken for Mr. Penton, he has also been mistaken for another very famous rider.  Al Born, Tom Penton and I went to the VMD west short track races during the 2000 Sears Point event. After the races were over we were climbing down from the bleachers when a young lady tapped me on the shoulder.  I turned to her and as she pointed to Al she asked, "is that Dick Mann" ?  We laughed all the way back to the hotel about that one.

Paul,
At least they didn't ask if he was Robert Redford!

Hope you don't mind me bringing up an old one. But how did I know 7 or 8 years before it happened, that the movie would actually be made. I even predicted the correct title. Guess I should start thinking about playing the lottery.

On a similar note. Does Guy Cooper now own V003 ? That's what someone from Oklahoma told me yesterday
