Anyone out there have an exact replacement paint (paint code, manufacturer)for the Hammerite/Hammertone color on the Wassell frames.  I have tried a few products but would like to see what other folks had luck with.  Would prefer to use a paint gun and not a "spray bomb"

Thanks in advance!

I have had good luck with Hammerite brand siver grey. It is available in quarts or aerosol. I have been using it on my competition bikes and it is very durable and easy to touch up.

Thanks Dennis, Where is a good place to purchase this paint?

Dennis Jones

Our local Tru-Value and Ace hardware stores used to carry it but have switched to Krylon brand whih I have not tried. The last I bought was from a vender we buy from at my work. I can get some for you if you are not able to find any. The Hammerite has glass beads in it and gives a very shiny finish. I need to order some myself in light blue  for a Wassell/Tyran project I'm starting.

Estwood Corporation sells it in Pottstown Pa. They can also be found in Hemmings Motor News. The rustolem and other imatators do not work as well. The Hammerite stuff is great I use it on my race bikes as well very durable.

Dennis, Steve  What would you say is the real color choice for a Penton MudLark frame? (I have a few to paint and have used the Silver before)  The silver gray or the light blue.  Reason for asking is that I am color blind and certain colors look the same to me!

Dennis Jones

I have a good condition original paint bike and the silver gray is very close. It is hard to say how much the paint has shaded in 30 years.

Color blind Kip ? That would explain your yellow fenders.Everyone knows that they should be WHITE !

But Karl, John Deer is Green and Yellow![}:)]

The silver is a vey close match for the Wassel trials bikes. The blue is a direct match for the Wassel (Tyran)MX bikes. I painted a Greeves Pathfinder in the blue and it looks very nice.

Dennis Jones

Desmond is that the light blue for a Tyran?

Steve, Dennis    Did you guys use a the spray bomb method or did you use a paint gun?  How did the finish turn out?  Thanks

Dennis Jones

Kip I have been using spray bombs with this paint although my brother is a professioal painter. Even he is impressed with the quality and finish. Just sandblast the frame, wipe it down and paint. No primer or finish sanding. Work top to bottom to avoid overspray and put it on thick and it looks great. I have one bike that has been used in competition since 97 and still looks good.

Dennis, I looked at the sample in Eastwood's catalog and it looks like the paint has a textured look. Does it lay down pretty slick? I am doing a rider Piner and would like to find something in a can to use on this so it can be touched up. I have tried several different silver gray paints and can't find anything that is close enough of a match. Not looking for a resto, but want it close to the original color. Dennis D

The Hammerite light blue is a very very close match to the original Tyran color. Dennis Did you need some templates for a tryan seat and side panels.  Thanks
