I have been looking for the intake manifold for a Sachs 125 1/6D engine. This is the bolt on type manifold that connects the cylinder to the 28mm Bing type 84 carburetor. Also, I need a 65.25mm or 65.5mm piston and rings for a 1974 Penton/KTM 175cc motor.

Best regards,

You will need to replace your cylinder,if you want use a stock KTM piston. The biggest size was 65mm. i dont know if Wiseco has built bigger pistons, anyone any idea?

Richard,
Al has set up an exchange replacement kit for your generation 175 cylinder. he has had good cylinders  relined and bored with a new piston in the kit. give him a call and he can fix you up.

I've talked to Al about the cylinder exchange program he has, but I am concerned about the cost of a newly relined cylinder and nos atandard piston if there are no oversize pistons available. Al dosen't have any oversize pistons for the early (pre 1976 ?) cylinders. It's a lot of money to fit a cylinder/piston from Al if after a year or so of racing I'm right back with a cylinder with no piston.

Does anyone know of a supply of oversize pistons for the 72-75 175cc KTM motor?

Richard,

The shortage of pistons for the '72-'75 175 has been a topic here for a long time.  I was able to find a 65mm long-skirt piston from Dr.2Stroke, a member here.  On a rare occasion an oversize piston will show up on E-Bay, but not often.  It is my understanding that it costs $5,000 +- in tooling, plus a 100 piston minimum, to have Wiseco make new ones.  So if anyone has a spare ten grand laying around, then we'll have a supply of pistons.  But expect them to cost around $150 each.

Good luck with your search for the holy grail.

Richard..
I will add to what has already been said, those particular pistons
are indeed the 'hen's teeth', I purchased one from Dr. Two Stroke and
am embarrassed as to what I paid, ($275 delivered) but given a choice
between a non-running Piner and $275, you know who won. Every once in a while they appear on ebay, I recall three this last year.

i forgot to mention that i have a nice 64.5 bored 175 73-76 cylinder on stock, which i would sell for 350$,including a new NOS 65.00 mm KTM piston. EMail: [email protected]

I finally got my 2 Jackpiners back that I sold back in 1981 and this whole piston thing dosent sound to encouraging. I know (1) of them hasent ran since I owned it and I "assume" the cylinder and piston are okay (still turns over).  The other bike, the piston and or rings are worn.  Does anyone recommend swapping cylinders+ pistons from base to base, The bikes appear to be identical and the age difference:, ones a 1973 and the other is an early 74.

as for the manifold for a "D" Sachs engine.Proflo carries rubber intake manifolds that will work with a little bit of modifaction(open the slotted holes to the bolt centers of the cylinder). Also you can grind down the (2) raised portions of the cylinder to allow the new manifold to seat flush.
