For the 2004 season AHRMA has changed the (line) that classic class bikes ride. This class include the Penton/Wassell trials machine. For those not familiar with trials changing your skill level is different than in MX. In MX going from novice to intermidiate you ride the same track but against better riders. In trials you ride a complete different course (line). The lines are numbered 1-4, 4 = beginner, 3 = novice, 2 = intermidiate, 1 = expert. The classic class has used these lines in the past. For 2004 the classic class will ride the same lines as the premier lightweight bikes, whitch moves the expert back to line 2, intermidiats to a combination of the 2 & 3 line (aka PI), and novice will remain at 3.
This is a big change as it makes the steps from level to level a lot closer and eliminates the dangerous ( for rider and machine ) 1 line. This should really make this class grow as the PI class has in recent years. Be it good or bad I think this will make our Pentons more sought after and increase the value. More Hodaka customs will probably show up too. For the really good riders who want to show up the Bultacos and Yamahas on the 1 line you can still enter your Penton in the Modern Classic class.
