I'm sure that some of our more knowing KTM experts will have the complete answer on your cylinder. Elko made pistons for the KTM motors as well as pistons for the Sachs motors. That's all I know.

Thomas,
Elko made the cylinders for many years for Pentons then KTM.  You would probably need to take a picture of the cylinder and have someone look at it that knows what they are looking at.  I think you have stated that it is modified so you may have trouble pin pointing the year.

I have a pic of it that I can e-mail to the experts and I have talked to a few of them already. The cylinder has reed valve that isn't a GEM system and the reed cage goes inside the cylinder which I got Boyesen Dual stage reeds on it that fit Bultaco and I got that from Kent Knudson in Still ...Keeping Track. The mod that I was talking about is that it is on a 1974 bottom end. The cylinder is stock but I can't figure out the year and I guess it doesn't really matter but it is just one of those things that gets under your skin!![^]

thomas-fer sure it's NOT an 81! i'm guessing this may be a one off machine shop special-you never said whether the piston had any mods done to it.[^]

Duke, That is what gets me ! By looking at the cylinder it had to been casted this way and Kip Kern rebuilt the motor and I don't belive there was anything out of the norm. The entrance where the reed goes down into the cylinder is made this way not a altered job at least that is the way I see it. I am going to e-mail Kip and try and get him into this post right now. THANKS GUYS !!!!

I just talked to Kip Kern and he said a standard 250 piston was used on my rebuild.
