From Phil Ketchum...bt
"Phace Plant" Phil strikes again!

That's the reason for this abbreviated report.  They told me I had
to sit out the acceleration/brake test + the 1 lap around the MX
track today.  From the reports I heard from others today, I was
crossways on the trail but still astride my KTM.  I'd been passing
others with courtesy and abandon up until some undetermined
misfortune overtook me.  Others said that if you got off the trail
you were going to be in trouble and quite possibly this happened to
me.  The Taylor twins reported that I didn't know their names,
others said I was quite loopy and disoriented, and Dwight Rudder
asked me about my spare shift case, and I acted totally ignorant of
its existance.

Damage to my '79 KTM 250 was minimal with only a broken rear brake
return spring, and my right foot peg is bent FORWARD indicating an
impact from the rear.  A thought just occurred to me. Perhaps it was
Speedy trying to catch "Phast Phil" and the only way around him was
to punt him from the course with his award winning (the Kool Bike
award!!!) Sachs 250GP! ....in my dreams....!

Initial indications seem to be a semi-mild concussion, and minimal
damage to the bike.  The forward bent foot peg seems to indicate an
impact from behind.  My crotch aches a lot, possibly from a flying-W
and crash landing on the seat/tank.  Ouch.  I have a large rock-
sized scrape/bruise on my back that is painful, but I can't see how
walking around the pits is going to help much.  I'd rather be
riding....Common sense says to sit tomorrow out and play spectator,
but because of the concussion I remember very little a about today's
ride, other than when my minute came up the KTM lit permanently on
the 2nd kick.  Thanks for your overflow fuel line routing tip
Teddy!  Both he and Rosemary watched over me like I was one of their
own, God bless them both.

Dwight and Debbie Rudder drove me back to my motel after the evening
banquet, and I coerced Kyle Taylor to shag a beer for me.  We
chatted for about an hour in the Taylor's room at Hotel Vinduro
before retiring for the evening.

My biggest regret for the day is not remembering more of the trail
or special test sections.  Hopefully tomorrow will bring new promise.

Bye from the Best Western, Sand Springs, OK.

Phil
