In an earlier post I mentioned that the topic of discussion for tomorrow night's POG meeting would be the early Jackpiner and that one would be brought in. In realizing that the ISDTRR and several other topics will take up a good portion of the meeting, I think we will brake the Jackpiner discussion into two meetings. Tomorrow night we can discuss the development of the bike, look over literature, ect.  and ask some questions of Mr. Penton and others who were deeply involved with the Jackpiner.  We can then bring in an early Jackpiner at the Jan. meeting, the Dec. meeting is family night.

Here are a couple of questions I have, do any of you guys have any Jackpiner questions for the experts?

  1. Was the Jackpiner engine the first total engine design/build that KTM ever did?

  2.  Who was the "mastermind" of the engine at KTM?

  3. Is it true that the early proto models of the engine had "Penton" cast into the engine and not KTM?  If so what did Mr. Penton do when he saw KTM on the engine, this one should be interesting:D

  4.  Who actually chose the name Jackpiner?

  5.  Why was a 175cc engine chosen?

  6.  Why was blue selected as the color?

This outta be fun, thanks guys for you help.

Paul,
Wish I could be there for this meeting.  One question.
Approximately how many had the Amal carburetors before they chose to change to the Bing?

Ron,
Great question, actually I often wondered why they ever used an Amal in the firstplace? I am sure that the Amal is a fine product in the hands of someone who truely understands it, but I personally liked the Bing better buddy:D

Paul,
Just a side note to possibly understand the impact of the Jackpiner to the Enduro Championship arena.  I feel re-reading the Keeping Track and matching advertisement/articles really brings one back to the fact that these bikes imediately started winning and I mean winning BIG TIME at the Nationals.  I believe that Jeff won a overall as well as Jack............don't get me to telling stories that I can't back up[:I].
I will try to send more info as I dig it up.
