Dumb question, I know, but which way does the c/s nut turn when removing?  I tried both ways last night and could not budge it![:I]

Mick

Don Roth

Mick,
To quote the infamous D Wilford, "All nuts on the RHS of sachs motors are reverse threads" so to loosen the c/s you would turn clockwise.

Don,
Bad Karma for your Sachs engines by picking on Doug.[8D]

Ron & Don,
Does that mean if I stand on the left side of the bike, I won't be nuts?;)

Robert,
That is if your in the Northern Hemisphere.  Counter Clockwise if you are in the Southern Hemiphere.  And Robert we are not talking the Mason Dixon line in dividing up the North and the South Hemisphere[:o)].

Ron,
I didn't know there was any other line to divide it. Besides, when I got my motor back from Dr. Doug, it did have tag on it saying "Texas Twin - Hope you like it."  You don't suppose that was in reference to the displacement of cc for my Berkshire do you? Hmmm.

Just some food for thought....most air impacts develope their greatest torque in the CCW direction...this in anticipation of removing conventional threads, so use caution at full power on CCW tightening threads[:o)]
Adios from Denver.....

Dennis Jones

Hi Mick, Boy am I relieved, that's the way I remember my piners came off after I kept trying to remove it clockwise [8] Was embarassed to speak up, thought maybe oldtimers was setting in.

Dennis, you aren't the only one guilty of this mistake.  I would say over half the engines I have rebuilt over the years were brought to me after people couldn't get the nut off the counter shaft and/or the flywheel.[8D]
