Hello POG,
I have joined the ranks of Penton ownership.I am in the process of restoring this Penton.
To keep me moving along I need a few question answered.I need to have some welding done on the frame is it mild steel or crome moly?
Any area of the frame need to be gusseted before powdercoat? Is there a brand name color match to give to the powdercoater for the frame.
Should I have tank creamed before painting?Looks like I should use the 1975 "lay down" fiberglass side panels?
The motor is already in the hands of a highly rated POG member.
These answers will get moving again. Thanks for your help.

Hello Paul, from socal....Welcome the the Penton Owners Group, where you will find many new friends. it's always great to hear from a new member that has strong ambitions such as yours. Maybe we can help...As far as I know the later frames are CMF, as far as additional gusseting is concerned, Kent Knudsen has very usfull info in previous issues of Keeping Track #16 Fall 2002 #15 Summer 2002 and # 17 Winter 2002, in those issues he talks about setting up a Winning Penton and very good advice indeed! Powder coating, so many choices! I did find HB Fuller Mercedes Silver to nearly match the 74 frame. Tank prep can be tricky due to the nature of the oils becoming embedded in the fiberglass. One of our frequents, Ron Carbaugh, has located a shop in Texas that can re-apply vinyl-ester resin in a spinning technique to the inside of the tank, could prove to be superior in that respect. I do have repo fiberglass parts, and am listed under suppliers @ the front of our home page. Once again, welome to the POG forum, and good luck on your winter project, pls keep us informed...[8D]

Sheesh, we'll let anybody in here!

At least he has seen the light and can now start to purge the Maicos from his life as he starts down the path of true enlightenment.

Welcome Paul, I'm sure the Piner is going to be a thing of beauty based on your past efforts.

BTW, you do know Speedy hangs out here too????????

If Paul does as beautoful a job on his new Penton as he did on the Maico he brought to the reunion ride last fall, we are in for a treat!!!!
