Might anyone be of help in my search for a decent pipe for my 79 KTM 250MC restoration. The factory original pipe that came on the bike has numerous patches and dents that may not make it a good canidate for repair.  I've had correspondence with the fella at Circle F about their pipe, which is a beautiful work of art, and may go that route if no other oppurtunity presents itself.

Bob,
What is the going rate for the Circle F pipe for a 1979-80 250 KTM? Do you have their contact information as well? I might be interested in getting one for my 1980, which uses the same pipe. I have 2 of the 1979-80 250 pipes, but both are dented up in the headpipe area, and I need both unless I get one of Circle F's Thanks, Mike

Michael,
Here is the web site for Circle F.  Kevin is a great guy.

Mike,
Kevin with Circle F quoted me $230.00 for pipe with silencer + shipping, which in my case is $30.00.  Ask him to email to you the pictures he has on this pipe. It is a work of craftsmanship. Let me know what you think, maybe we can get a little discount for a group order.

Bob,
I sent them an email early this morning requesting price and availability for an exhaust pipe and silencer for my 1980 250 KTM and also my 1977 250 MC5 Penton, but haven't heard back yet. That sounds like a good deal including the silencer, as I haven't found a silencer for either of my 1979-80 pipes yet and I have been looking for 2 years for the correct one.

Kevin says the lead time is 4 weeks and since the bike pictured is a late 1980 or 1981 small fin engine, there is some question as to whether the 1979-early 1980 250 large fin engines have enough clearance without trimming some fins. Kevin was going to check on a bike to test it on and if I go this route, I have offered to send a 1979-80 stock pipe for comparison if Kevin could use it for referrence.

This is a really great resource to have. My '81 250 split the pipe in the fat part of the chamber within weeks of purchase (new.) Fortunately, KTM came through with a new one, but I've always worried about it since. One less vintage worry!

i have some 250 79/80 pipes in top shape( ideal for resto projects) on stock, also a brandnew one. if interests are around, write to [email protected]
The remade pipe looks very good, and would surly bring some more power,,but  for resto projects seems oversigned.there is nothing like a original pipe! just my 50 cent on that.....

Just FYI, I e-mailed Kevin with an inquiry re: a replacement pipe with a spark-arrested silencer for my '75 250 and he responded that while he doesn't currently produce such an animal, he likely would be in the "near future". Perhaps a few more similar inquiries from the group would inspire him. ;)

Keithuu,
Tom Brosius sent me Pics of the pipes that Andy at Ace pipes makes for the earlier models. His  contact information is on the Suppliers page.
As another note: I was told that a 1978 250 MC5 torque pipe can be made to fit my 77 MC5 250 so, I am interested in buying a 78 250 pipe and have a 78 400 pipe for sale or trade. It has a large dent and some smaller ones in the headpipe area, but could be repaired. The pipe is good and solid otherwise. [email protected]

Michael,
A 79 or 80 pipe will also work on your MC5. I have a 79 pipe on my 77 GS6, the front mount bolted right up and it is easy to fabricate a new rear mount. The bad part is these pipes are very hard find and don't seem to hold up as well as CMF framed pipes did.The Circle F pipe pictured in this thread is a copy of those pipes. This pipe should also work on your MC5, it sounds like they are checking to see if it will clear the taller head fins.

That would be great, because if Kevin finds out it will clear the larger finned engines, I will buy one of these pipes and use it on the 77 MC5 frame. I took my lower end to Gary Ellis yesterday to assemble when he has the time, and I'm using the large fin early 1980 cylinder/head configuration and 1979 cases for this engine. Next thing on the agenda will be a Lectron carb for this setup. Thanks for the input!
