Hi Folks,
I have try to unscrew swingarm allen bolt to remove swingarm, but it just spreads swingarm apart.
Do I need to hold a wrench on the thin adjustment nuts to break it free? If so do I need a special tool?
Swingarm does move up and down freely. Thanks for any help.

Hi Paul,

Do you mean it's pushing the LH side of the frame out and away from the swingarm, or the o.a. swingarm width (outside of the end caps) is expanding outward?

It sounds like the swingarm bolt is rusted/locked to the inner sleeve.

That means you can't pound on it, cause it's still threaded in the left side, and if you keep trying to spin it out, it could waste the threads abit.....huh? That's a good one.

Maybe I'd start here - tighten both ends caps (inward), those are the hexes you see on the ends of the swingarm. That may tighten up and hold the inner sleeve, and maybe it'll break free of the swingarm bolt. Also try some lubricating between the bolt and the sleeve.

Those thin wrenches can be found at some bicycle shops. In that trade, they call them a "Cone" wrench.

Bob,
Thanks for the tip on where to find the 24mm open end "thin" wrench used to hold/tighten/adjust the swingarm end caps. All of the parts stored I enquired about them just said "Huh?" I thought I was going to have to make my own!
The Penton Repair/Service manual states that the right hand side must be held with one of the wrenches to keep the nut (cap) from turning and changing the side clearance when tightening the swingarm pivot bolt, so it may be that it is just as necessary to keep it from loosening and wedging the swingarm inside the frame when removing the bolt. Al Buehner had several of the Swingarm wrenches last time I checked, dirt cheap.  Also, Eastwood sells a complete set 8-32mm for under $30;)

I agree with Bob, it sounds like the swingarm bolt is stuck to the inner sleeve. This is a pretty common problem. If all else fails you can cut the bolt off on each side of the swingarm with a sawzall.

Don't go to dinner until you have registered and gone through tech!!!!

Paul, take the plugs/zerts out of the swingarm and put in as much Kroil oil as possible. If you don't have any, I'll bring you some at the ISDTQW.

Hi Folks,
The 74.5 Jackpiner is moving along slowly. I had to cut the swingarm adjustment nut and swingarm bearing sleeve to get the swingarm off. So, I am looking to buy replacements. Tried Al B. already,no luck.
If anyone has these parts for sale let me know.

Paul,
Try Dr 2 Sroke. We got one last winter from him.
He was the only one with NOS sleeves at that time.
 His e-mail address is
 [email protected]
We have had good results when ordering hard to find parts from him.

Paul,
I have a 311 date 250 HS frame with a swingarm that has reinforcements welded on the underside of the rear arms and from the looks has been repaired in at least two places before the reinforcements were added. It does pivot on the frame, but slughishly. If it could be a donor for the parts you need, even if you have to carefully cut out the tube, I will try to remove it from the frame tomorrow and send it to you for the shipping charge only, as I have a much better frame and swingarm now I am using for my 74 HS. Mike,
If the swingarm has six shock mounting holes and you can remove it from the frame then it will work.Let me know.
If the bearing sleeve won't come out I can carefuly cut the swingarm top and bottom and pop it out.
I will need at least one of the "adjusting nuts".
              Thanks, Paul (socal)

paul,
It is the early style with only one top shock position on the frame, not the 74 1/2 with the laid down alternate position, but I think the internal parts and the nuts should be the same. I will let you know tomorrow if it is usable. Mike

The pipe that came on the bike as an odd muffler welded on. I have received an muffler end and the exhaust shroud, but seems that I am still missing parts to complete the pipe?
It looks like the stinger was removed from the pipe? I am thinking I need to order the stinger kit with the treaded rod,am I missing anything else on this pipe to complete it?
