I need an original rear frame loop for a steeltanker.  The frame I have that I want to restore has a homemade loop.  Any help would be appreciated.  I will be happy buy a frame to just to get the loop, but I don't want to destroy a nice frame.  Thanks.

Ron why don't you get a piece of correct tubing and have your local hydraulic hose people bend it up for you? Weld 4 tabs and your done.  Surely in your garage you have a good one you can copy.

firstturn

Ted,
Because I want it original.  It already has a copy welded to it.

Dony Smith,
  Thanks for the frame parts.

Ron:  Was just a suggestion. FYI: If man made it then man can copy it without even you telling the difference. Problem is too many people think a copy just has to work not look identical. Ted

The man knows what he wants, and it's his bike, let him do it his way.

I am not trying to be mean but will clarify why I said what I said. First, not all people know that most hydraulic hose retailers usually can bend steel tubing.  I am lucky as I know someone with a computerized tubing bender that can handle anything up to 4" in diameter.  The information was put out to inform.  Second, I am a FIRM believer not to cut up any frames.  Frames, once cut up for parts are a lost Penton forever.  This is a shame to due in my opinion when a part can be reproduced exactly. Ron I know you want it your way but I hope you see where I am coming from.  I have never seen a frame that wasn't salvageble if enough work was done.  Sure it's easier to toss it but I just disagree to use 2 to make 1.  I know that you will not change your mind but maybe someone else will read this and think twice before destroyinmg another future Penton.

You both make valid points, parting one out lessens the quanity of the salvagable ones, but if your taking original parts to make one 100%, then there should be a little leaway.  I suppose it comes down to: he got the parts from Donny Smith, what was the condition of the unit the parts came off of?? Was it nonsalvagable? had the frame allready been cut? inquiring minds would like to know.[ if you don't mind us asking?]  thx

Ted,
Obviously from your view, from the mountain top, you are always right.  Now let me tell you why I ask for the frame part, besides just wanting it.  I once bought a swing on ebay and I could see the frame was nice.  I ask to buy the frame.  No answer.  When I got the swingarm it had been torched of the frame.  Someone else had bought the front end ( a Friend )and he told me the steering head had been torched off too just for the frontend.  Next story is at a lot of salvage yards in the South, if inspected by the state, must produce titles or cut the steering heads off right then.  So all in all Ted I am not on the prowl to destroy frames.
So why don't you let me judge as to the frames that are worth saving since I have probably saved more Pentons from the salvage yard and/or found homes for Pentons than most people will ever see today.  And Ted I said most people so please don't get on a tear and read me the riot act about proving me wrong.

Dan,
I do mind you asking because this isn't a court of of who did what and was it OK.   If you go back and read most of you comments you remind me of TV reporters after hearing a speech.  They start off say "well let me tell you what the President said".  I can read and I know a little bit about Pentons, restoring them and making them start up and go.  So here is number 2 for you.  First you started it with Larry Perkins over the ebay items and now every post made here seems to have you have to make a comment.  If you want me to stop helping people on this site and only post things I have for sale just say it.  Now go back and look at some of your last 25 responses on this thead if you want to see my point.

Ron: Sorry you seem to be taking  my comments so personally.  Your responses seem to be getting more mean spirited, while I have merely stated my opinions.  Don't know why your being that way, but again I just put out my opinion in the hope others try and repair wherever possible. Ted

Ron,  I just went back and read over the thread about the E bay stuff. There are both pro's and con's mentioned in it. Some people like it and some don't. I posted the 250 in Tx., the guy who bought it thanked me because he didn't see it on E bay. There are other pro answers there also.
If you're peeved at me about Larry, that's fine, but Larry made his own choice.
And if you don't want me on this site, by all means tell me. This site was put up so we can all help each other. I haven't been on here very long and you've voiced before that there were alot of people here before me and alot of people here know more than me. That's fine, but I also come here to learn, I read every post, put up by anyone. I ask questions, I try to give advice to those I think I can help, if I can't help I don't answer. Some times I try to steer them to someone,[like you] who can answer their question more professionally. It's not your message board, or Larry's ,or Ted's, or Tom's: It's our board, proud Penton Owners. If I'm wrong to want to help, then I'm wrong.
Do I want Larry to come back, you bet, I think he's a good guy. He tells it like it is, nothing wrong with that. And if you read that thread, I did step up and defend him. I like Larry and hope he comes back around.
I would like to think I don't have any enemies on this site, but I may be wrong.           Dan   "thrownchain"

"It's not your message board, or Larry's ,or Ted's, or Tom's".
I find this disturbing.
I have never felt, under any assumption, that any member of the POG, is under the assumption that "we" are the "Masters" of the POG Forum!

I, like you, hold very close regards to the pride in owning a Penton.

But please, do not characterise me in a different way.
Respectfully

Donny,
Just when you have time and I am sending money via PayPal.  Thanks again Donny.

To echo My Good Friend Tom Brosius post...

I am not the coordinator and I do not have any part of the POG website management or any control on what posts are left on here or removed as some have been done.  With that said I now have the frame loop I wanted when all this started and for that I have Donny Smith to thank.  Also I would like to thank the several other Penton Owner's Group members that emailed me off site offered to help.  This is the Best Group.  In response to the use of the term  "Masters of the POG Forum" I will cease to offer tech help on this board at this time and as I stated earlier just use the site as a shameless method to buy and sale items.
