Hi Fosterboy,  Franzkappa hasn't a shop, but he is a vintage ktm fan like us (he is crazy for '70-'80 ktm, he has about one hundred old ktm).  If you need same  spare parts ('70-'80 years), you tell me and I'll say it to Franzkappa. I asked him for Victor's pipe too, he has that pipe but he doesn 't sell it. I bought from him many spare parts for my ktm 125 model year 1976.

Victor,
for the complete pipe (articolo 43) with the bracket (articolo 61) the price is 400 euro. The shipping cost  with insurance is about 150 euro for a 10 kg package (I don't know the exact weight of the pipe).
The pipe is ready.

Maurizio:  Hello and welcome to the POG.  I am in need of a set of front fork rubber boots for my 1969 Penton.  They are the Ceriani style that cover all of the fork tube from the leg to the stem.  Yours has the short cover but the ones I need are accordian style and about 8" long.  Do you know of a source?  Thank you, Ted Atkinson

I move that Al Buehner gets together with Paolo "FrankZappa" and maybe with Dorino Pillon and becomes distributor for all the KTM-branded and related stuff that Al doesn't carry.

Sure, it may be a sin to mix KTM-branded stuff with a Penton Parts supplier, but then again I think lots of us have late 70's/early 80's KTMs, as extensions of Penton interests, and it didn't seem to offend any Penton-KTM dealers back in the day to evolve with the brand.

Plus, it's easiest via Al and would rather support him to ensure he stays in business for years to come for all the good he does. Can I get a 2nd on that? Go Al.

Maurizio:

I appreciate your efforts and information.  I am considering the pipe purchase and wonder how we can go forward, if I choose to go with it.

I am meeting with my local welder to check about what fixing up my pipe will be...I calculate about $720 US or so if I buy ine from Italy.

I will do some thinking and budget review and get back to you.

I truely appreciate your effort and will decide shortly.

I would love to have Al able to purchase items from PILLON DORINO, but I suspect that the strength of the Euro plus freight, duties, etc. and then add a profit margin of X percent would put items beyond the prices most are willing to pay.

Given the prices Mau10 was quoted on a pipe at 400 Euros + freight comes to $722.  Add in duties, etc. & profit, puts you at $800+.  Now add in inventory costs & money tied up in parts for some extended time and the price goes higher.  Pipes for $800 - $900 are worth more than a lot of bikes that need them.

At those prices I would think we could interest a manufacturer in the US to produce these items.  I doubt that a manufacturer is willing to produce parts to be readily available. But, there are pipe fabricators in the US that do reproduce pipes only with a minimum quantity order.

No offense to anyone, just my manufacturing/engineering mind at work.

Hey Poggers,

We also need to look at the Continent East of California for parts. The exchange rate is currently in our favor, and the cfaftsmanship is second to non.

I think Mr Pillon's pipes are too expensive, he takes undue advantage of our passion.

My employer has such a contact and is currently working on KTM 250 clutch plates and a couple of other items of interest for me. My problem is getting a good enough sample to reproduce in the first place. Items like MC5 pipe silencers and rear shrouds with tips would be easy to make and cheap after tooling costs, if there is a need. Mike

I was thinking more Buehner Supply stocking some of the array of KTM-branded decals and tank stick-ems, seat covers, etc needed for restorations. Costs about $7 a pop and 3 weeks waiting for mailing from Italy, after you get around the language barrier. Cost from Paolo is comparable (sometimes less) than similar stuff from the US. Would guess he'd sell a small suitcase-full to Al at wholesale to leave some retail profit in there.

If you want, I can ask Franzkappa the list of the decals prices.
Franzkappa's decals are very cheap but very good.

Ted,
I cannot help you, sorry. I don't know where to find the
front fork rubber boots for a 1969 Penton.

Maurizio,

After the opening ceremony for the 1974 ISDT in Camerino, a number of us Team Penton riders were walking around and talking with other riders when an Italian rider came up to me and seemed interested in my Team USA outfit.  He had on a rather interesting jacket and we decided to trade.  I still have his jacket and it has a club name and logo on it.  It says, Costa Volpino Moto Club, have you ever heard of that club?

Thanks
Paul

Paul,
the great champion of the Costa Volpino Team Carlo Rinaldi  died the last week. Probably he was the italian rider you met.
