This goes for anyone and everyone involved in this  (Portland, MI. Natl.)   weekends POG festivities.
I'm here for you, if there's anything I can do to help out, don't hesitate to ask. I'm about 45 minutes away from the track.

Thanks

Bob,

What is that mx track like? Is it the more sandy whooped out Michigan AHRMA track?

its actually one of the best tracks that ahrma races at. its just not that well attended. no, not all whooped out and very well run and the vintage crowd is welcomed there. hopefully there is a good turn-out of racers, poggers and otherwise..

Tom,

It's more soft than hard, that's forsure. There's a couple deep sand sections on the track, but I don't really think of it as a sand track - and I've never seen alot of whoops there, only a couple short sections, and the typical studder bumbs leading into the corners. I really like it, I'd much rather dive into a soft corner, than skidding around and trying to make the front end stick on hard pack. Sure would like to see you there.

Portland is awesome. I agree with what rob w and chicagojerry both had to say about the track. The sand seams to have a lot of soil mixed in with it. Last year was my first year at Portland, and I will definitely go back! They do a nice job of prepping the track, and it's very Vintage friendly. I really liked the elavation changes.

The first picture shows an example of the fine job that the club does. This was the only double jump on the whole track. If you went to the outside, you had only a single jump to do, or you could go to the inside and do this double jump. But there was one problem. Just past the jumps was a 90° turn to the right. You had to carry a lot of speed to do the double jump, but when you landed, you couldn't get slowed down enough to go to the inside of the 90° right turn. So the rider you that just passed in mid-air, will pass you right back in the corner. I was able to clear the double jump on a 125, and even though it didn't save any time, it was still pretty cool to do!

Hey, the Portland MX track is awesome. Portland Trail Riders are a good group too. That became "home" track for the Lansing area after the Jack Pine Lodge MX track closed. Anybody remember Jack Pine Lodge? I think they are the sponsor club (Lansing MC?) for the enduro. Anyway, you wont regret the trip to Portland. We will see ya Portland guys in St Helen this fall.
