Hi POG,

I know you'll know the answer to another question I have. Can someone tell me what make of front fender originally came on 1978 MC5's ?
The one I have on the front of mine at the moment (or what's left of it) says something like KTM in an oval and then Novo? or Nava? underneath that. Is this the original or is it a period aftermarket one?
Many thanks
Chris.

At Mid-Ohio I was told that the KTM Nova (Novi?) fender was one year only, off of a 1977 MC5, if my memory serves me. I believe it was Kip Kern that told me about it. They are very hard to find according to him. No one has reproduced that exact one to my knowledge. I had the 1978 MC5, 1979 MC5, MX-6 version reproduced by DC Plastics. It has the KTM logo with Austria underneath it inside the oval. Underneath it says M. Roberts Made in Italy ART 357. None of the DC Plastics replicas have any logos on them. Mike

Thanks for that Mike. Looks like I'll just need to go with something like a DC Plastics one if they are hard to come by. My whole set of plastics is totally knacked anyway so I'll probably just get the lot.

Thanks again :)
Chris.

I actually have one of the fenders that say KTM and Professional underneath it in the oval, and Nava or Nova on the underside that is in better than fair condition. I compared it to the 1978/79 one that I mentioned and the only noticeable difference is the more pronounced squared edge design. The overall shape is almost identical. It would be literally impossible for Don at DC Plastics to make it look any different than the one he already makes that he lists under 1977/1978 MC5 GS6 KTM front fender. Mike

Hey Mike,

You are exactly correct.  1977 was the only year for the KTM Nova fender.

Kent,
My memory isn't what it used to be. I'd bet it was you that pointed that out a Mid-Ohio. I asked several POG members about the fenders for 77 & 78 at the show, & that was one that I stuck back in the van after our conversation. I try to keep at least one original around for comparison to the Repros that I put on most of my bikes.
Thanks for confirming my information. Mike
