kickstarter parts - what am I missing?

Now that I am finally getting around to putting my '73 Six-Day together, I'm going to be asking LOTS of questions.  Here's another:  The upper half of the kickstarter features a hole, clear through to the lower half's upper shaft.  Typical kickstarter parts feature a ball bearing and a spring at the pivot point.  What parts am I missing?  I presume the bb and spring, of course, but what backs 'em up, at the outer end of the hole?  I've always found the ball and spring to be on the INSIDE of kickers' pivot points on other bikes.

  I think you are missing the thick washer(with a hole in it) that fits on top (of the kick starter) with a pin that holds it in place.  I would give Al a call and see if he has the parts, if not, I would find a old one and take the parts off it.  I hope this helps.
