Probably a Teddy Lander answer needed.
Would a 76 Penton 175-(Historic 200 class) run with vintage or post vintage bikes?  Trying to figure out if I can ride  another bike in the post vintage class at Marion if I can get there.

thanks for any advice

hi joe, some of the 76 175's still had the non-leading axle front forks which are vintage legal. also, if your bike has the multi-position rear shock set-up, its legal too.  the key is 7" in the front and 4" in the rear. in the historic class you would probably run the shocks laid down which can still be legal but if riding them in vintage you would earn a lot of poker chip spacers in your rear shocks. so running them vertical is your better option if you wanted to ride it in vintage. i hope that helps. :)

Joe, you going to bring Shock-n-Awe or Marion? Or maybe the Trail Breaker?

Your bike has the straight leg fork if I remember so it should be no problem in vintage.

I want to get it right.  The historic 200 class will race post vintage?  my plan was to run the historic 200 class in the vintage race then run Shock and Awe in post vintage after a visit to the Ohlins trailer for some stiffer springs.
the ROKON trailbreaker is a must have now at all events so Phast Phil has a toy to play with.  It is one great pit bike and wood hauler

If I make it to Marion I plan on camping

Historic 200 is a PV class, so you would have to race the Penton in Sportsman 200 or an age class to race Vintage. Just flip your shocks to the vertical mount position and run Sportsman 200. There will not be an Ohlins rep at Marion (I've only seen them at MX Nationals) so you might want to order springs unless you are going to an MX National before Marion.

next year I will run the Penton in sportsman 200.  I am going to try to run up some points in the historic 200 class for this year
thanks for the info Brian.

Murph,

Thanks a lot for letting me ride your Rokon Trailbreaker.  I've always wanted to ride one of those.  It was definitely a unique experience and wish someone would have taken my picture crossing the stream at Combs, Arkansas, or riding up the hill on the opposite side.  It doesn't have much for shocks does it <grin> but it is certainly a bike that is capable of climbing most tall trees if you could only hang on.

Harry LaClair said he used to have a Trailbreaker many years ago.

Thanks again,

Phast Phil

Phil,
I just need to let a little more air out of the tires for light riders like you.
The trailblazer will be along at every event that i have room to haul it.  feel free to take it out and pass on the glory of two wheel drive.. The Christini (?) guys are afraid power like the mighty Rokon.
