Some info on the 100cc Class that I did not know and to others as well ; is that its  ' based'   on the Sportsman Class Rules. I thought it had some Classic 125 rules to follow.  But according to Matt  H. the rules dude  you can run a modern type  pipe or a modern (he was not to clear on the modern pipe) .  LG

Last year at the Sandhill National there were three or four "tricked out" Hodakas and I know at least one of them was running a "lowboy" up-pipe that had been adapted to fit.  I'm not an absolute purist, but I just don't think those pipes should be allowed in a class made up of pre-75 bikes.

Yes, there are some tricked out Hodakas with reed valved, Harry Taylor tuned, Novation aluminum swing arms, leading axle forks ... but back-in-the day, weren't the Hodakas always tricked to the max!  And, they have some very fancy tuned pipes too!  The rules are "Sportsman" with some adders:  no components originally designed for 125 machines, ie no SL 100 Hondas installed in Rickman Zundapp frames yet Rickman Hodakas are OK.  No Monarks allowed.  No late model Wombat (125) frames with a 100cc engine (wink-wink) ... it all about fun and not a bunch of whining.  At least so far.

The 100cc class in VMX has been huge success with a total of 74 riders scoring points in 2008.  2009 will be even better with the addition of a Cross Country class for the tiny bikes.  I'm sure Penton will continue to be well represented.

I picked up a Berkie from Gary Ellis during the off season. He had bumped it up to a 125cc but I swapped out a 100cc head and cylinder. It has a trick down pipe. Not sure how it runs yet but I guess I'll find out in Florida.

LG, yes it is a Sportsman based class, but dont worry a Berkshire is the bike to beat in my opinion. They make good power, they are FAR more reliable than the Hodakas and they handle better than anything else in the class by a LONG margin. Gear it 12/57 so you can start in 2nd to avoid the 1-2 shift and you are set.

I will only make the Mid-Ohio MX for sure, with Gatorback and Diamond Don's longshots, but I will contest most of the CC series in the 100 class.
