They're still coming out of hiding. I brought home a new Penton steel tanker yesterday. Good ol' V 2302.
It looks like more of a '70, than it does a '69. But it has some '69 features, such as short seat, big headlight, and cast iron 125 5A engine.
For years I've owned frame number V 2308 (frame only) (only 6 off this new one), I always looked at it as a '70, and imagined it'd have a alloy aluminum 5A engine. ??

So then today when I started cleaning this bike, I found a sales receipt in a coffee can of used nuts and bolts.
The receipt is dated 7-2-95 - It's from Goodwill - and it's for a brand new Sachs 1251/5A engine - $50 + 3.00 sales tax, for a total of $53.00

I had noticed how much cleaner the engine was from the rest of the bike, and how nice all the case screws were. But then I really started looking closer.
The entire engine (and ignition, and carb) is without a doubt, all brand spank'n new, NOS, never had gas through it, never ran once.

The guy I bought it from knew zero history on the bike. Said it was his cousin's, and they had to clean out his house.

Another strange, wonderful, and lucky day in the life of a enthusiastic Penton fanatic.

Bob,

Sounds like quite a score. I have heard of other Goodwill finds as well.....a guy we race with found a 1973 CZ 250 MX, in very nice condition, for $75 at an Oregon Goodwill.
