Raymond,
If you put a bathroom scale under the front wheel of the bike, then under the rear wheel, and add the two together - you'll have an accurate total weight.

OR, you could pick up the bike and stand on the scale.  LOL

Raymond,  A 77 Penton piece of literature with specs for all bikes from 125 to 400 list the 400 MC5 weight at 210 lb and the GS6 at 220 lb.   It does NOT indicate if this is wet weight.   Hope this helps some.   Nelson McCullough

Thanks Nelson, for some reason it feels alot heavier than my 07 KTM 200, and thats  suppose to be 210lbs.  It actually feels like 250 lbs when riding and lifting/pulling it around??

With or without the enduro kit.  Dry or wet?

V1893 (Early 1970) with enduro kit, wet, full tool bag, weighs 219 lbs on the starting line.

I read an old comparison test from '74 between the Maico 450 and the Penton 400. It showed the Maico dry at 225 and the Penton 400 dry at 230. That was a 74.5 400 in MX trim, I'd guess an MC5/GS6 in enduro trim at closer to 245.

Brian, that weights sounds a little closer. It sure feels like its up around 265 lbs. I always need help to get it on the lift. And When your sliding it around corners and braking hard it feels like 265 lbs.
Does anyone have the book spec for this 1977 GS 400 Penton dry and in Enduro trim ??

Raymond,
I found an article I purchased on eBay from a June 1977 Cycle magazine that tested what they called at that time a Penton MC6 250 Enduro, which was actually a 1977 250 GS-6 and they list the curb weight at 261 LBS. I imagine that the 400 engine weighs just a little more than the 250 with a heavier crank and flywheel, so I would estimate the 400 GS6 at probably closer to 270 LBS fueled. I hope this helps. Mike

For what it is worth, I just weighed my 1977 250GS, without a toolbag and no fuel in the tank.  It came in at 245 lbs.

I had the shocks built for a 270# bike and a 190# rider.  I know their working fantastic..  the last ride the shocks never bottomed out and I felt no lower back impact :)
Also the bathroom scale trick is a great suggestion for setting up your suspension on the newer bikes.
