Penton Racing Talk / New National Enduro Format
March 11, 2007, 02:48:47 PM
Sounds like the AMA as adopted ISDE format.  Why do we need both series?  I for one would like the AMA to go back to the old enduro series rules PLUS make it manditory that the enduro be 150 miles long with frequent resets.  Riders that can't figure time should learn or ride ISDE's and hare scrambles as mentioned earlier. I have already written the AMA when I received the 2007 enduro schedule.
Brian, we just need more dedicated riders not new rules in my opinion.  Yes we could have the factories pay for the best riders but that doesn't assure a gold for the team.  The Americans have fielded some impressive teams in the past but we have just been out ridden or had bad luck.  Period. Kevin

Penton Talk / Anyone Know what this is?
February 21, 2007, 06:21:56 AM
There were many homemade tailights made by riders and dealers.  I used a sheet of 3/16" rubber and 2 small marker lights. One for tailight and one for brake.  Why is this topic so interesting? Kevin

Penton Talk / Wanted to buy 175 Jackpiner

Thanks guys for all the help.  I did not know the metal case problem was that serious.  Does this apply to all KTM motors in Pentons?  Is it because they were magnesium?  Kip:  Will the case problem continue if bike is ridden only a couple of times a year, or is it just because they have sat for many years without being started at all? Kip:  That would be great!  I am sure if you wanted to make several Poggers would buy them or even maybe Al.  I would take 2 sets for sure.  Keep us informed.  Kevin

I thought that the Triumph gators were much thicker than the Ceriani.  I was told off site someone here had them repro'd but haven't found out who.  Where is the resto Poggers finding them?  I have tried all the suppliers on the supplier page.  I will check my friend's 1969 T120 Triumph and make sure anyway.  Kevin

Penton Talk / 1969 Penton on Ebay

Guys we may have been missing how fast these bikes were!  According to the owner and I quote, :

"The bike runs extremely well.  If you have never ridden one of these bikes, you are in for a surprise.  The acceleration will blow away any 4-stroke 250 including the new "racing 250" four-strokes.  It will run with most 200cc 2-strokes, and will way outrun all of them on top end.  The powerband is incredible and the engine just winds out forever.  Back in the 70's getting trophies on this bike was like taking candy from a baby, when running against the comparative toads that everyone else was riding back then.  I have 2 cylinders for it, one for high horsepower on the top end (around 80 mph), and one for low-end torque that is best for steep hills in the mountains.
The suspension doesn't have the long travel of current bikes, but the engine is more than competitive and  the suspension is good enough to allow you to fly through the whoop-de-do's.  If you want it even faster, the power-ported cylinder will allow the thing to go about 85 mph (with the stock gearing sprockets).  The ported cylinder takes away some of the low end torque, and puts it into mid to top range power."

Funny my 1971 isn't that fast. Kevin

Penton Talk / Bosch points ignition 1971 125cc
June 24, 2006, 12:50:00 PM
My question is did all the 1970/1971 125cc bikes come with the lighting coils, horn, stoplight coil etc? Or did some come with only the coil in the flywheel for the ignition? I have an engine with only one coil. No provision for powering lighting.  Kevin

Penton Talk / 1970-1971 Exhaust system style
May 22, 2006, 12:19:48 PM
What did the Penton 125cc Six-Days come with for an exhaust? I have one with just a igniton coil with no lights.  Looks to be factory in Bosch magneto flywheel. So figured it was always a mx model. Points and 1 coil with blue wire. All the ones I have seen have high pipe on right with shroud and muffler built into end of exhaust shroud.  Did they all have this muffler system or did some come with a cone and stinger on end with no muffler? Also what color were the number plates? Kevin

I have noticed the access hole for the clutch adjuster is located in 2 different positions.  Some have it directly under the H in Sachs.  Others have it slightly to the lower right edge of the H.  When did the change occur?  Any ideas?  Kevin

Penton Talk / Wanted to buy 175 Jackpiner
January 28, 2006, 07:37:15 AM
What should I look for when buying a Jackpiner?  What are the common problems to a Jackpiner that can be very expensive to repair?  Looking to ride it in a dual sport occasionally.  Don't think I need a 250 so that is why the Jackpiner. Suggestions?  Kevin
