Penton Talk / old dealerships
March 20, 2010, 08:44:42 PM
Hey, anybody remember Jack Piner dealer in N. Lansing MI. They sold Penton and I believe Husqvarna. I had to be 10 or 12 years old because I remember going by the place on the way to the MX track in Lansing at the Jack Pine Lodge which was the Lansing MC clubhouse. That began as a TT track until MX took off. The club had no affiliation with the dealer as far as I know. It sure would be cool to find a dealer decal from the place. Paul

Penton Talk / Jackpine Enduro

Yep, the DNR had chased me around Silver Lake dunes after getting on the dunes without a ORV sticker. That was when they first started requiring purchase. I had trailered my bike 150 miles and thought I would be legal with flag ect. but I didn't have the sticker. I said "OK, where do I buy one?". "Sec. of State on Monday" was the response so I snuck up there and was chased around all day. Coming off the dunes they were ready for me but moto experience came in handy. My Pa had to pick me and the scoot up a few miles up the road where I had the bike stashed behind some cottages. They are a little over zealouse about those decals and hassle people A LOT. All I have seen is riding places close instead of opening more which is what they said was going to happen. Still, Michigan has some great places to ride and its worth the $ to enjoy. Makes me a little homesick.TTPaul

Penton Talk / Lectron/Bing
April 14, 2009, 05:18:01 PM
Yep, I saw that today. You may get a 1/4 inch off before getting into the passage. Its such an oddball angle for the carb to airbox it would be hard to make anything that looks good and seals for a boot. thanks for checking,
People say these old bikes work better with a round slide and I tend to believe that. Right now I'd be happy with a carb that actually works. I guess a new slide and needle would fix my Bing but aint sure. slide looks like its wore and it just wouldn't start until I swapped with the dellorto and man did she go. TTP

Rob, I would be happy with a 38. I pm'ed ya so we can talk when ya have time. I'd rather not put the Lectron on it but finding a carb has been a chore. Thanks,TTP

Wanted / For Sale / Keihin carb
March 30, 2009, 12:06:03 AM
Hey, thats funny, I just put one on my 74 250 today. So far I'd say it has lots more clearance. Hopefully it cold starts better than the Bing. This Keihin looks like new and is a 38 so I thought why not...I have had everything else on it. Wont know how she runs till I finish it up with a shorter cable. Would not have been my first choice but sometimes you get good suprises. Paul

Rocket, Way cool pics. I see McGovern from Grand Rapids who was a dealer I used to buy from. Aint no question one of those Triumphs is Ray Kussmaul who won the Jackpine a couple times. I have ridden some or most of whats let of the trails. Its been many years since they left from Downtown Lansing. Before my day riding/living. When I started they left from the clubhouse North of town. They also had scrambles and then motocross at the Jackpine Lodge. Thanks again, sure is cool to see the old scoots, Paul

Penton Talk / AHRMA
February 26, 2009, 11:45:27 AM
Hey, Thanks Yall. I know where to go when a question arises. I too  do the best I can to help my POG Brothers. Hope to see you guys in July....Hopefully I can bring the HD. This is something I bought from HD factory racer Ted Boody back in 78 when he was racing for HD. They gave it to him but its not like the rest as it has an aluminum swingarm and a lectron instead of the stock delorto. Looks to be a leftover from the MX program. Paul

Penton Talk / AHRMA

Richard, there was an ad for "lots of Harley MX 250 parts". We spoke and he had a couple small items that I need. He said he would call back as he wanted to know more about my bike but that was two weeks ago and I wanted this bike finished by Daytona. Looking thru cell phone records would be a real shot in the dark cause I aint sure if he was in Ohio,IN, or IL. So goes it when you wander away from the Brotherhood of Pentons huh. Thanks, I appreciate the effort, Paul

Hey, that has got to be the most unheard of Hi-Point product ever. They had a lot of stuff, boots, oil ect but a powdered energy drink...wow. Waaaay ahead of the game I'd say. Easy, TTPaul

Penton Talk / Trails Tires on a Penton 125
October 13, 2008, 08:19:20 PM
Hey, we ride North of you in Sylva NC and also at Durhamtown Plantation S.E. of Atlanta (must be close to you) and a couple guys run trials tires as their KTM's are street legal and they have absolutely no problem with traction. I was suprised to see the same bike as mine a 520 KTM keep up when I have brand new Metzlers on and he had some kind of trials tire. I thought before the day was out he'd be on his head but no problems whatsoever. I'd think about trying them on the Penton. TooTallPaul
