I am not "up" on exactly what's going on here.. Is someone trying to "duplicate" or re create the PENTON.. are they nuts?

It's only original ONCE!!!!!

It's like the hatchet George Washington cut down the infamous cherry tree with.. "IT ALMOST ORIGINAL.. WE ONLY REPLACED THE HEAD AND THE HANDLE"

Penton Talk / Auction Sniper?
March 24, 2006, 04:27:55 PM
my thoughts are... if you really need the part.. contact the seller.. often they will do a "buy it now" for you... I've bought Many many things that way, including whole bikes (not pentons)

or.. at least make the sniper pay dearly... post the biggest  end of the world price you'd pay for the product... and cost the sniper some extra money if he really wants it... if no one bids.. you don't have to pay the top price anyway.. you'll get it for less

my two cents

If my good buddy Tommy D (you know who you are!!!)  wanted to go may 21... I'd drag my butt out of bed early 5/21 to go ride old pentons.  I've got a wedding the nite before... can't do the pine cone.. it's magor canoe trip/road bike weekend.. sorry to miss that one

I have what I consider a very low milage and very original 250 enduro.. a 1974.5.

It is very stock and original but has a couple small things changed/added. I intend to leave them as is... I was an enduro rider in 1974.. and the very small changes are the exact thing we did then to "dial in" a new penton.. so I consider it very period correct..

my two cents

regarding the 24 MPH average.. surely you guys remember the old VDO speedo converted to "enduro timers"   I have an old one with my penton.. and used them back in the 70's

the VDO was connected to the front wheel with the standard cable... but was recalibrated to rotate at the same speed as a clock (pocketwatch mounted in a special magnifiing holder on the bars

you set the watch and the intrument to "12:00".. just as you start time arrinved... then you just rode at the correct speed to keep the needle and the minute hand in the same position!!!!   easy... until you hit the first bottomless swamp with 50 bikes stuck in it!!

I like the "i'VE BEEN RIDDEN" a bit but not "ragged on" look ..

what a cool piece..  as with most bikes
.. I always like "the other guys bike" as much or more than my own!!!

Is this the answer you are looking for:

at the start of an enduro... everyone has 1000 points.. there are hidden checks all along the route... you lose 1 point for every minute  LATE to a checkpoint... you lose 2 points for every minute EARLY to a checkpoint

The total number of points assesed is SUBTRACTED from 1000.  THUS... the HIGH TOTAL after subtraction is the winner.. as it means he lost the least points via being late or early to check points

At least that's how it was in the seventies..

Is this still the way  it;s done????

Penton Talk / Trivia Question.."Highpoint" name
February 06, 2006, 01:23:23 AM
thanks... there is a HI POINT route card holder with the bike.. (tank top).. I think I'll put it on there.. just to "show the bike" as it enduro'd in michigan in the 70's.    I just was in too good of condition to be that old.. cool   thanks again
