Penton Talk / 1977 250 GS6 Primary Ratio? HP @ RPM?

Never mind, I found it.  25/69, 34 hp @ 7,400 rpm.

I would bet on a air leak, but its hard to say. I had the carb (Mikuni) on my Can-Am stick open like that once in a race, only after WOT for several sustained seconds. It was in a CC race and it did it at the same two spots two laps in a row. On quick wide open then closed like normal off road riding it would never do it, only on extended WOT. I took the slide out and never found anything obvious wrong with it, and once I put it back together it never did it again. Never did figure out what caused it.

You described it perfectly.

No dipstick. I'd drain it and refill with the correct amount.
Al Buehner may have one in stock. Look on the suppliers links.

The manual says 1 to 1.5 quarts.  Should I split it down the midle and say 1.25 quarts?

Penton Talk / Headlight and Tailight on a GS6?
August 04, 2010, 05:29:18 PM
Mike:

I found the headlight set-up and the tailight lens.  What did you use for the tailight bracket/lamp holder, and also what parts did you use for the brake light switch?  I decide I am definitely going to do this.

Penton Talk / Headlight and Tailight on a GS6?

Thank you to everybody.  Mike, your bikes look great.  Does your tail light have a brake light?  Also, what do you think about me riding my 250 GS6 on the street (40 mph speed limit) to work every once in a while?  It is about a 5 miles each way.

Penton Talk / 1977 GS6 250 Worth?

I have a very original, non restored '77 GS6 250 with 1035 original miles, never been taken apart.  It starts on the second kick and runs great.  I'm thinking about selling it, any thoughts what it is worth?

Penton Talk / 1977 250 GS6 Primary Ratio? HP @ RPM?

I have all of the individual gear ratios, but cant find the primary.  Anybody?  Also does anybody know the factory rated HP and at what RPM?  Just curious.

Penton Talk / MPG on 250 GS6?

Is it my imagination, or is the miles per gallon not that good on my bike.  Mostly around town.  I will keep tack next time, I fill up.

The throttle cable is nice and free.  Doesnt get stuck open in any other gear.  It only sticks in 6th gear when the rpms are way up there, not at lower rpms.  Its almost like there is a vaccumm holding it open.

GPS showed 70.46 mph today.  Still had a little bit left.  The carb is a Mikuni, not a Bing.

I have a 1977 250cc GS6.  I want to change the trans fluid, but the breather / fill plug is all fu...ed up.  Is there per say a dip stick on the end of it?  I don't want to try to remove it until I find another one.

Any suggestions for purchasing a new or good used one?

Got the GS6 running.  Could not get voltage out of the brown or white wires (tail lite).  Is it ok to use the Yellow (head light), for both head and tail light, or will there not be enough wattage.  Somebody randomly cut wires.  I will have to look at why no brown or white voltage, unless its ok to just use the yellow.

Penton Talk / GS6 Question (again sorry) Electrical
June 04, 2011, 01:57:54 AM
I have a 1977 or 1978 SN 70604510 GS6.  Titled says 1978.  Got it running today, fires right up.  I found 4 wires from under the tank that are not connected to anything, just clipped and taped.  The colors are: white, brown, yellow, and red.  Any ideas.

Did they ever have lights?  I tried to get a voltage reading, but it was all over the place, never steady.

Thank You:

Jeff
