Penton Talk / POG AND EBAY
December 14, 2001, 10:53:33 PM
I have many mixed emotions on this one, first - I like to "touch" what I'm buying and therefor have never been over to e-bay so the rest of what I say is irrelevant. Second - "Needing" something and "Really needing" something are different from "having to have something" if you catch my drift; I mean perhaps a regular circuit racer who is a shoe-string budget contender probably needs that 5A bottom end more than I do (a lowly bike-aholic with a bunch of basket cases sitting in my garage), even though my Penton absolutely WILL NOT WORK without it. See, I don't NEED the bottom end, the other guy does if he expects to continue his racing season.
Third (no names, no offense)- the guy who says he'll back off because you are bidding might change his mind at the last minute and jump in when he realizes it may be a long time before that bike or part hits the market at that price, so he'll take his prize and offer a sheepish apology.
I guess that's all "part of the game" in auctions!

If you can buy it cheap, why worry about whether it's "correct"? Buy it and have fun! If it IS correct, it's just a plus!

Penton Talk / What is best for painting frames
November 15, 2001, 04:30:56 PM
Budget is one thing, "Life Cycle Cost" is another. Regular paint will require more fixes (with associated cost to tear down, etc.) over the useable life of the paintjob, powdercoating will require less.

Do you have a shop manual? If not, you really need to get one first, review the appropriate steps, then get on with it. I'm sure you'll get tons of help on this forum if you ask specific questions about particular sub-assemblies or processes. Do a "search" of the Penton Forum for 'manuals' or 'shop manuals' and you'll turn up several options. Good on 'ya...

JR - I'll give you $250 for the bike, sight unseen.... (you lucky dog)

Title is not so important, just that you should be assured the bike is not stolen. Definitely a legitimate bill of sale is in order with a notarized affadavit.

I have found that one man's Red is another man's Orange (or even Brown!) Sun fade can make some colors hard to describe accurately. Check for the best paint under the tank where it's not faded.

I'm basing this reply on past experience - if it's for a 125, stick with the 3.50; the extra weight (and higher HP drain) of the 4.00 isn't worth it for the slight additional traction. Not to mention the higher price...

P.S. Any suggestions will be welcome. >>

Here's a sugestion - "Chow" is spelled 'Ciao'! Food is spelled 'chow' (giggle)
