Bill,

A good friend of mine has a clean 1976 that has been languishing in his garage since his son traded his riding boots for golf clubs. There is a pretty good photo of it at http://www.spodeteam.com/SPODESINACTION.html

Also you can email my buddy, Mark, for more information. His email is

Wanted / For Sale / mc5 chain adjusters
August 17, 2004, 09:55:37 AM
Hi Mike,

I have been taking pictures along the way and will post a full report when I am done. Basically, I have modified a 1980 MC5 swingarm to fit my 1975 Hare Scrambler. If I do say so myself, it is coming out pretty nice. More on that later. In the mean time I still need some chain adjusters. Anybody?

Wanted / For Sale / Penton Owners...a funny bunch
July 28, 2004, 07:31:44 PM

My two cents:
nwwr100cs is probably right when he sees Pentons selling for higher prices elsewhere. The people on this site who know these bikes well and have an understanding of what it takes to make them right(both monetarily and time-wise) will probably balk at paying top-dollar for a bike that the purists among us would view as only half-done. Most of us have found out the hard way that if the first 90% of the project take 90% of your cash, the final 10% of the project usually requires an additional 90% of your cash!

Also, I don't think the 'Piner commands quite the price as a comparable 125cc, 250cc or 400cc, as in most vintage motocross clubs there is no class for them to race.

Finally, if someone were looking for just a good 'rider' nwwr100cs's bike would probably be priced about right. Most folks here are generally looking for 'parts doaner' bikes to finish other projects or a fully restored bike for their collections.

OK, sermon over.

Penton Talk / A New President...........
June 08, 2004, 12:29:04 PM
I also just read about Al stepping down and must offer a big thanks for all his hard work. What a drag, inside of one week our country has lost two of the best Presidents we have ever known. (sorry guys, I couldn't resist)

Penton Talk / 250cc transmission woes HELP!
June 08, 2004, 12:26:11 PM
Thanks guys, I will check both the shift quadrant and the shift forks. I never thought you could install the shift forks wrong as they are each a different height as well as one of them requiring a notch cut out of it to clear the quadrant. Of course, if there was a way to assemble it wrong I would have figured out how! I will keep you posted as to the mysterious "extra neutral" and how I end up eliminating it!

Penton Talk / Where are the Pentons?
February 05, 2004, 05:01:48 PM
Glen,

Where did you see the Arizona results? I delivered one of my Pentons out there to a guy who planned to race it that weekend. I was wondering if he was one of the two Penton riders.

Penton Talk / MC5 cain size
January 19, 2004, 10:50:38 AM
Randy,

I bought a 520 chain, but the distance from point-to-point on the sprocket doesn't line up. Is the 530 same distance, but wider? If so, I don't know what kind of set up I have. Any help?

Wanted / For Sale / cracked hubs
January 06, 2004, 10:07:37 AM
Hi John,

For some reason, mine are the older looking, six similar fins, style. Odd because this bike is a 1977 MC5 (although it has a big tank and a VDO speedo drive) I thought by '77 all the hubs were the newer style, but maybe just the MX versions? Anyway, thanks for any input and any leads on a replacement front wheel. I am pretty good at riding wheelies, but I may have to put the front end down at some point . . .

Wanted / For Sale / cracked hubs

Well, since we have determined that I own two front wheels for my 1976 250cc Penton, which are both junk, I must ask, does anyone have a good, used front wheel available? Thanks and happy new year to all.[^]

Penton Talk / 77 MC250 QUESTIONS
December 02, 2003, 02:37:58 PM
Hi Thomas,
thanks for the help. Don't need any reeds, in fact mine didn't have a reed valve on it. Is that the correct set-up for a 1977? And of course I am still in need of an air filter element. Thanks again

Wanted / For Sale / Penton Wanted
November 07, 2003, 11:27:30 AM
Hi,
I have a 1972 Penton 125cc Six Day that I could sell. It is the 5th Penton I have built. I built this one last year for myself to race and it has been very dependable and competitive in AHRMA vintage motocross races. I have recently bought a 250cc Penton so I could sell this one. It is not a vintage show bike nor some beater I pulled out of a barn. This is a purpose-built race bike that only needs a rider. I built the chassis from the ground up, using all new seals, bearings etc. New Progressive shocks, new seals and bushings in the original 32mm Ceriani forks, new Falk plastic front and NOS plastic rear fenders. It has a new, functioning, handlebar-mounted Magura choke lever, original Magura throttle, Teflon-lined blue-colored cables, Dunlop tires, rear wheel relaced w/ heavy duty stainless steel spokes. The motor was built using new gear clusters, new selector key, new clutch plates and springs, new transmission bearings and seals, new crank seals and M3 bearings, new rod w/ new big end bearing. It also has an NOS Webco case protector. This motor has one race on a new bore (54.93mm) and NOS piston. It is using the original Motoplat ignition and 27mm Bing carburetor This bike shifts great, stops great and is very fast.
Let me know if you are interested. I am in Southern California[8D] but can crate and ship anywhere.:)

Hi John,
Yeah, I guess knowing what bike I am talking about would help, huh? It is a 1976 MC125 w/ KTM motor. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
