Penton Talk / Got my DKW 125 going - What model is it?
October 02, 2001, 08:39:31 AM
All 3 of my DKW/Sachs have a hinge from fender to under rear of seat. . Stock.  Front of seat bolts through bracket on frame.  Seat hinges to service airfilter

Petcocks have been a problem.  Please post source when you find one.  I've got some new material from Olson Gaskets but haven't make new washers/seals yet.

Have just the frames left of the two my brother and I bough in about 1975?  Made (assembled) in Canada, KTM frame. Cheap front fork, petcock leaked, but they were quick with the 6B Sachs.  Nothing to do with Dalesman as far as I know.  I'll like to see someone get some use from one of these frames.  $25 for my time and pay Shipping.
If they want the title and engine side cover add $50.  Vin # was the engine #, not a frame #, there were many odd things about this bike.  I think we paid about $500.00 ea for the bikes, maybe less. kc

Do shocks sit on top of swingarm? 72+.  Shock bolt welded to side of swingarm 71 or older.

Oven cleaner gave my Sachs case a green tint.  May have left it on to long.  Be careful.

I put a 1974 6B, 6 speed gearing into a 1971  5A engine, no problem.  6 speed gears are thinner, allowing the conversion.  1 and 6th are the same ratio, just one more step in getting there.

How I pull bearings without special tools is.  Wrap race with brass sheet, clamp w/ bear separator, and pull with standard bearing puller.  Use heat as needed.

Penton Talk / Tank bag bolts, What size [?]

What size are the tank bag bolts(hold toolbag to gas tank) for my 71 125?  I tried a 6mmx1.00 it would not start, or thread had to much paint/rust.  I tried what I believed was a 5 mm, to small.  Are these metric threads?  Thanks kc

Are the Motoplat electronic ignitions known for going intermittently bad?
Engine died like a fouled plug or an open needle valve.  Both are fine, and I have spark.  Engine runs 5-10 minutes and dies all at once.  Plug is wet, bike will not start.  An hour later, it fires first kick.  If it was the needle valve sticking open, would it die all at once?    Thanks for the help.  kc
