Thanks gents. I know there are a few things amiss (those fenders) etc. but here and there along the way I'd just hit a brick wall. Those handlebars are obviously wrong but they were on the bike in 1970 when I bought it and I always liked them so they're original to me I guess.
The jacket hanging behind the bike I'd gotten when I was 16 (I'm 61) and I thought I'd add it to the pic just for fun.
I've learned a tremendous amount not only about my old bike but also about the whole Penton story. Due not only to the hands-on part, but also from the help and info gathered here at POG and Ed Youngblood's book. What a great project this has been!
Thanks again for the attaboy's..,  Fred

Mike and Dennis, thank you both very much! And to all who've helped me out these past 9 months thank you all too. I know I've been MIA the past month or so but that was due to using the search function here at POG for my last 8 or 10 queries, each of which provided the info. I needed at the time.
Rereading this thread from 11/14/12, my very first post here at POG, I gave a brief rundown of V416's history with me beginning in 1970.
What I feel is of importance, and haven't mentioned prior, is that V416 will pass to my eldest son when I go 'toe's up'. He is a far more accomplished mechanic than I ever was or ever will be, plus, he has his own brief 'history' with the Penton, and so having heard all my stories, cousin's stories, and his own memories, will insure that with his own concerns and attachments coupled with my work these past months, V416 be ready to stand another 45 yrs. I'm pretty darn satisfied with that.
I'm kind of hoping that makes up for those nasty fenders.
Cheers, Fred

Amazing Fred!  It was great to watch your project through completion.  Great job!!!

During your restore 2 steel tankers and a nice 6day racer left my ownership.  At least I know where they all are, and the good hands they landed in.

Thanks Sean, I figured I'd hear from you:D  My Penton and I are getting 'broke in' together since I haven't been on it for almost 23 yrs. and it's just great. I'd forgotten what a light quick bike it was. The first few times out I felt like a complete stranger on it. 'Starting to get my sea legs back though. Why on earth did I wait so long?
By the way, you did save yourself at least one of your ST's, no? It sounds like your collection's going thru an overhaul.  Fred

At the moment all that is left is my race bike.  I have to keep at least one Penton in my collection.  Going through some life changes, I'm sure the collection will return in a few years.

Fred,
Your bike looks great! It provides me motivation to get some of my projects moving.

I was lucky enough to take custody of Sean's bikes for a while.
V 213 is now together, running and totally complete with all its correct parts (thanks to help from the great POG membership!).

V 99 is in the "parts gathering" phase. I have most of the unobtainable parts at this point and hope to start in on the restoration in the near future.

Sean,
If you are ever in the neighborhood, swing in and take a spin.

Shane

Fred Deagostino

Well Shane, thanks for checking in and also for the pat on the head on my project. It's good to hear Sean's V213 is up and going and 099 is on it's way close behind. I'd like to see these two bikes in some pics somewhere along the line after hearing about them from Sean over these past 8 or 9 months.
And Sean, I'd get over to Shane's at some point and take that 'spin' he's offering. I've been pushing V416 and myself a bit more the last few times out and each time out it sinks in a bit more why I liked this bike so much back in 'olden times'.
'Loud little devil though with that stinger! [8D]
                                                   Cheers, Fred

Hopefully I get down that way in the near future Shane.  I should be attending the makeup race in Elizabethtown, KY in October I believe, and I think you are on my way to Barber.

Gent's, just for fun here's a pic of my grand daughter on V416 a few weeks back. 'Never been on a bike of any kind in her life up to that point. Her dad put her on the seat and she immediately leaned forward, grabbed the handlebars, fumbled around for a place to put her feet like she'd done it before, and just after I took the pic, say's "PUSH ME!".
I just may have a third generation lining up for my old bike after all, and my own mini version of the Penton Future Project.:D
'Just thought you all might get a chuckle out of it.
                                                 Cheers, Fred
