Centerfold was fantastic!

Eric Jensen's article was delightful reading.  What a great storyteller.

Penton Talk / Gas tank

If I use the caswell tank sealer what would be the best way to clean the in side thanks for all the help

I had trouble a few years ago with sealing a fiberglass 1974 6day tank.  The sealant started fluffing off.  Finally decided that the problem was I had been previously using synthetic oil in the gas mixture - synthetic being much more slippery.  When the tank was prepped for resealing (can't remember who did it - I was one step removed from the process), apparently the inside surface wasn't de-lubed enough due to the higher lubricity of the synthetic oil.

At least, that's how I remember the final conclusion reached.

My sentiments too. I'm glad to here I'm not the only one. It drives my buds crazy going 20 mph in the woods and 40mph on the traverse roads. And after 40 or so years, I'm still able to do 100 miles every weekend.
Now how many miles on the Katoom?

Raymond

Hi Raymond,

Glad I'm not alone!

Miles?  Yeesh, I don't know.  I seem to remember Dave McCullough telling me that the computer keeps track of the miles or the hours, even if the little watch battery for the display unit is run down.  I'll ask him - or someone here please pitch in - to tell me again (slower, haha).

I bought a 2003 Audi sedan in Oct 2002, now almost 8 years old, with 54,000 miles on it.  I don't drive it very often, obviously, (I zip around most of the time in my 2000 Nissan Frontier pickup) except for road trips to Dallas or OKC or St Louis.  The Audi is in so-close-to-showroom condition - It's a good analogy to the condition/driving stress of my KTM.

Dave can attest to its baby treatment and the very good condition of the bike, as I've ridden with him a fair amount of the time I've been on it (and he's waiting, waiting, waiting in the woods for me to catch up).  I've never wound it out like a mad man, and never wrecked it.  I've toppled off of it several times grabbing a handful of clutch and front brake and putting my foot down on the downhill side of a slope, though!

Larry,
You're from Tulsa, right? I just passed through there last Wednesday delivering a bike on my way home From Texas to Illinois and after stopping in at Dave McCulloughs' place in Owasso OK. Are you interested in any Penton Trades, or just outright sale? This bike would be one that definitely interests me, and that my son could eventually grow into. Will you be attending Mid-Ohio? Thanks, Mike Winter. Newton, IL. 62448 [email protected]

Hi, Michael.

I sent you an email.

To other readers -
I'm going to sell the bike outright.  I won't be at Mid-Ohio.  If someone is going from this direction and would be willing to take it up there for Mike's or another's perusal and subsequent cash purchase, I'd be happy to send it with them and help with the gas/air drag expense.

Penton Talk / Prayers for Thomas Carmichael
March 20, 2010, 12:01:26 AM
Thomas,

I haven't been on POG in quite awhile, and just finished reading through this thread.  I'm so sorry to hear of your illness, and you've jumped to the head of my prayer list.

T, after Brother Ron took me under his wing here, you were the first person who went out of your way to extend a small act of kindness to me that immediately told me what a nice, considerate person you are.  I'll always remember it.  Thank you.  Hang in there, brother.

As an aside comment, people who ride/work on vintage dirtbikes are the best people in the world, and this Penton group is the best of the best - a really special group of people.

It never ends with the crusaders, though.  If it's not the noise, it's the wear and tear on Mother Earth.  If we start riding hovercycles that skim the surface 2 feet off the ground and are silent, then they'll complain about the speed.

Sigh...

Penton Talk / Sachs 6 speed Gearing/top speed
October 13, 2008, 08:46:59 PM
Brian,

there isn't a lot of drastic elevation changes in Tulsa at Zink Ranch.  So taller gearing would certainly be easier to carry here than, say, Missouri in 06.

Quotequote:Originally posted by brian kirby

I hear that the Zink Ranch '04 ISDT-RR had two track terrain tests that had the bikes pinned in top gear. In case they have something like that this year, does anyone know what the top speed of a 6A/6B is with the standard gearing? Anybody know off hand how much gearing a 100 can pull on flat ground? Any of you real ISDT Vets (Dane in particular) have any advice on how to set a Berkshire for high speed riding?

For another brand bike I have a factory manual that actually lists with a matrix the speed in each gear with a given set of c/s and rear sprockets, is there anything out there like that for the Sachs?

The couple of times I've ridden my 100 hard I think I barely ever got into 5th gear on a motocross track and for sure not 6th with 12/57 gearing. I've got a 13T and a 12T c/s sprocket, I've got the 12T on there now for MX so I can start in 2nd gear, but it sounds like I'll want at least the 13T for Zink Ranch. Will a 100 pull 14/57?

Too late, thrownchain.  Bike's already disassembled.  Frame/swingarm goes to the bead blaster next week.

Third time I've stripped a 6day down to the frame - it gets easier everytime!!  This time there were a couple of moments when I actually did things the easy way ;)
