Wanted / For Sale / Early '70's leather tool case
November 23, 2022, 11:43:05 AM
Anyone have an older beat up leather tool case that goes on the metal rack behind the seat for a '72 Jackpiner resto. looking for one that is well used, shows some abuse but is still functional. Probably like a lot of us.

Penton Talk / 1976/1977 MC5 250 and 400 ORIGINAL COLORS
November 14, 2021, 10:34:21 PM
The colors I mentioned previously were from the early years maybe thru '75. 400cc's were always white from the ones I saw. Restored a '77 MC5 250cc that is orange with orange side panels with yellow oval # plates on the side panels & yellow front plate.

Wanted / For Sale / '72 Jackpiner chainguard
June 30, 2021, 09:15:30 PM
Got a chainguard from Parmabike, nice quality, but expensive, box was so light the packing weighed more than the item. also ALB supplied the 530 master link along with what I hope to be the final items I need to complete this 1rst year Jackpiner , original aluminium mudguards front & back, Radaelli steel rims, Metzeler tire on the front, Barum on the rear, not so original but look pretty acceptable. Will attempt to send a few photos upon completion, no guarantee that will work, but will try. Thanks again to AL & Dale. for still being there!

Penton Talk / Factory exhaust paint look
June 08, 2021, 09:08:32 PM
In restoring a first year Jackpiner pipe, I took all  paint off down to original metal then heated up areas around the welds with a propane torch to create bluish / purple heat heat marks & then clear coated it with  Duplicolor engine ceramic clear 500 degree. Came out very cool looking with the colors of the heat marks combining with the blue tank. Also Took the frame down to bare metal, sand blasted, 150 grit, 320 grit , then steel wooled, & applied a 2 pack gas / oil resistant clear. The final look was a sparkly clean metal look in my opinion better than any paint or powder coat, also very easy to maintain along with the pipe as all you have to do is sand an area out & re-clear. Must warn you the labor on the frame was x 3 0r 4 !

Being able to post & see photos would be a huge improvement, the saying a photo is worth a thousand words is still valid ! You all reckon ?

Penton Talk / 1976 Penton MC5 250 Fiberglass Tank Leak
January 13, 2021, 09:18:12 PM
Those tanks were made with polyester resin, epoxy will not form a chemical bond to polyester, so you have to create a mechanical bond by really scuffing , scratching the surface up so the epoxy has something to grab onto. That's after you really clean the surface of all residue, especially gas & oil that has soaked into it. Multiple washings with detergent & then a final clean with acetone & let dry completely. Epoxy is a very hard resin and is more gas resistant than polyester but at the same time more brittle so it needs a flexing agent added to bend more without cracking & separating. Also use non ethanol gas whenever possible.

Penton Talk / God Speed Marty Smith
May 07, 2020, 06:44:49 AM
Great full career interview with Marty on YouTube. Mentions getting a Penton 125 when he first turned expert in '72 , winning a lot on it which caused Monark to notice , and offer him his first contract to ride motocross before Honda snatched him up. Ironic in that at the end of the interview he talks about how much they enjoyed going out in the dunes on that buggy. watch on  "The Whiskey Throttle Show" [ episode 15] from 2019.

Penton Talk / Original '72 Jackpiner pipe
April 18, 2020, 08:55:50 PM
Thanks for advice on it being welded, didn't want to force the issue, currently removing multiple coats of paint on outside & will burn carbon out of entire pipe on a good cloudy day.

No, both are on the MC5, have no spares.
