Penton Talk / Barber Vintage Festival

You would think that they would give POG some kind of priority pass to squeeze in somewhere. I put my name on the list every year and still have not been able to get in. It seems it was easier to get my Packers season tickets. :)

Penton Talk / Bing 27 mm Choke
May 24, 2012, 10:00:58 AM
Hi Mike. The Bing Starter Piston w/ Sleeve for the 1/24, 1/26, and 1/27 carburetors is Sachs# 0686-100-000. I also have the smaller Starter Bushings #0281-101-000 listed, but they are for the 1/18 carburetors used on the 50S engine. In any case, I have what you need... Tom Gimmer @ (608) 295-3839 or [email protected]. Ebay price is $14.99, but of coarse it's always cheaper to order direct (we discount when there is no ebay fees to pay). Thank you. TG

Penton Talk / Parcel shipping........
February 03, 2012, 01:50:40 PM
For large shipments, complete motorcycles etc... I have used U-Ship in the past a few times (google U-Ship for website). It's works like an ebay auction, but for for shipping services. Only instead of the bid prices increasing, as the bids come in, the prices go down. It works. If you try it, just make sure you review the shippers feedbacks and insurance before accepting their bid.

Penton Talk / Parcel shipping........

For small parts, we have used USPS priority for the past five years and have never lost a single domestic package. We have shipped internationally to over 50 different countries and have only lost one package to date. We have a postage scale for weighing parts & packages and print all postage online. When you create postage online its very easy to track your packages thru the USPS website. USPS offers tracking on all priority packages except Small Flat Rate Boxes and Envelopes, which they only show postal acceptance and processing info. USPS estimated delivery time is 6-10 business days, but if Customs pulls a package for random inspection, it can take up to 30-business days to deliver (and Customs generally uses all 30-business days). Foreign Customs will also hold a package at the customer's local post office for pick-up if import tax needs to be collected. Tell your customer to check there first... and definitely DO NOT refund them until after 30-BUSINESS DAYS. Also, if an international customer asks you to declare a low value or gift on Customs papers, keep in mind that if the item is lost or damaged, you can only make an insurance claim for the declared value amount... You potentially risk losing your money only to save the customer money. Hope these tips help!

Penton Talk / Sachs Red Dot or White Dot Piston?
January 13, 2011, 04:16:14 PM
I wouldn't think so, BUT...???

Here are some of the differences between the two: different Sachs part#s for both pistons & both rings, different ring coatings, different top L-ring locating pin positions on piston, different top L-ring groove locations, different bottom ring end types, and different relief grooves cut into pistons in ring areas. Penton Talk / Sachs Red Dot or White Dot Piston?
January 13, 2011, 11:09:09 AM
Elko manufactured the Pistons, and most likely the Cylinder/Liners too...??? Elko used a color coding system to match Cylinders with Pistons (for tolerance purposes) by marking the piston dome with a colored dot, and the top of it's corresponding cylinder with a color dot. I believe tolerances varied by .0004 between colors, but I could be wrong. Pistons and Cylinders did not receive individual part#s for each color code... they were simply stocked under the manufacturers part#, and you could request a certain color code when purchasing a replacement part. Color code was also marked on manufacturers packaging in most cases. Elko Pistons were used by Sachs, Kohler, Rotax and others, and they all used a similar type color coding system. Problem is after so many years, the color codes wear off of the used parts, so you can't match them anymore. How critical is this? ...people have NOT been matching color codes for years now. Here is a link to a snowmobile forum about the same subject. TG

They are coming after the "underground economy" and anything that raises a "flag" on a 1040 will trigger an audit. They will start looking at the E-bay transactions and I think they will start tearing apart these flea markets and swap meets where cash trades hands with little to no paperwork.

Mark P is 2000% correct. Larry is correct also. I personally am Incorporated and have a CPA, FEIN#, State Sales Tax#, and pay state & federal income tax on my sales, so its business as usual for me. However, in the vintage motorcycle community, hobbyists will ultimately be affected the most by this new law. Many of these sellers that are collecting online payments as supplemental income will simply go away... it doesn't matter where they sell online, if they collect money electronically, they're included. My guess is that vintage motorcycles & parts are going to get way harder to find, which will drive prices much higher. Mark P is right on something else too... VMD and other swap meets will be next. You can bet that it's coming sooner than later! Our current government is taking the nut & bolts of vintage motorcycling to a whole new level... one that really sucks. TG

In a nutshell... it affects everyone that sells and accepts PayPal payments for selling over 200+ items per calendar year, or that sells and accepts PayPal payments for $20,000.00+ of merchandise per calendar year. Word has it that Ebay will lose tons because of the PayPal connection and Craigslist will grow for just the opposite reason. Only time will tell I guess.

I sell on ebay, and hopefully I'm not one of the bad guys, but things are about to change for online buyers and sellers alike... for the worse. Thanks to a hidden element of our president's new healthcare bill, we now have the new 6050W Tax Law. Starting January 1st 2011, anyone that does over 200 online banking sales transactions per calendar year, of over $20,000.00 in online banking sales per calendar year, now has their info submitted directly to the IRS. Experts anticipate a mass departure of garage-seller types away from ebay and other websites. What does it mean? ...less product available, which drives prices even higher. Bad for the seller and buyer alike... everyone pays more. Crazier yet, starting in 2012, anyone that sells something for more than $600.00, online or not, will be required by law to submit a 1099 for each transaction, for all 50 States. This law is so crazy that experts claim that the added paperwork will put many small businesses out of business. We all pay our taxes, but soon everyone will be under the microscope. No... I did not vote for him either!
