Guys, I haven't heard from anyone about getting a complimentary space at the February 22nd Lowbrow Customs' Winter Midwest Moto Swap. I'm holding one for you. Please let me know either way.

Jerry, there's MUCH more parts at the Lowbrow Customs' Midwest Moto Swap events in Medina than at any of Buzz's shows. His events are predominately leather and jewelry. Generally, we don't allow jewelry and leather vendors. I've made a couple exceptions based on individual cases. We had a guy from Chicago selling serious riding leather apparel and this February, we'll have one jewelry lady who makes her own stuff with bike logos like Triumph and BSA.

Penton Talk / History of VMD
July 07, 2010, 04:22:19 PM
Paul, you are referring to "Heritage Homecoming" that was held in Athens, Ohio in 1990 and 1991. Both years, the activities ended up at AMA HQ in Westerville. 1990 was the opening of the American motorcycle Heritage Foundation Mueum at the AMA offices. Malcolm Forbes was supposed to be the Master of Ceremonies, but he died shortly before the event. Jay Leno stepped up at the last minute.

There was an auction held at least one year, but I don't remember which year. It was run by Mid America Auctions.

Heritage Homecoming had trail and street rides and other activities at the Athens County Fairgrounds.

The Heritage Homecoming event was discontinued after 1991 and the innaugural Vintage Motorcycle Days replaced it at AMA HQ in 1992.

The AMA planned for about one thousand spectators for thefirst VMD and we got about five thousand! The weather was horrible with deluges both Saturday and Sunday. Most of the 106 swap meet vendors got stuck and Yamaha's big display eighteen wheeler (no demo rides until 1993 at Powell) cost several thousand dollars to be extracted from the mire.

Ron, I have another idea. Why don't you drive up to Ohio for the May 22-23 AHRMA Cross Country/Trials? I haven't seen you in three years! Southington is less than five miles from Windham. You could stay at my place. It's only 20 miles from Windham or Southington.

I'm only half-serious, but I'd sure like to see you again sometime soon.

I hope all POG members can join us in York! POG can have a complimentary space to promote the group. Let me know, Paul.

Additionally, mention that you are a POG member at the door and get $1.00 off the admission price.
Note: The swap meet will be in Memorial Hall East, not Old Main Building.

I thought I'd give you a heads up on the two facilities:

Smith Road Raceway is one of the longest continuously-running MX tracks in North America, holding motocross races since 1971. The track also ran TT scrambles events for several years prior to 1971. The natural terrain course is virtually the same as in the seventies, with the exception of a state-of the art irrigation system and track maintenance system. The park-like pit area features several pressure washers and a fishing pond.

Jeep Skool, the brain-child of Kelly Haylet is a 1500 acre former Pittsburgh Plate Glass sand quarry, specializes in off-road training schools 4WD vehicles, ATVs, motorcycles and law enforcement officials. Terrain varies from deep sand to single track woods trails to sandstone rock faces. Facilities include a camping area with electric hook ups, picnic pavilion and a soon-to be-completed bath house. http://www.jeepskool.com/

I am a long time AHRMA and this will be the first time I will be able to volunteer at an AHRMA event.
