Penton Talk / April POG meeting special guest........
February 24, 2012, 11:02:41 AM
Mr. Danik:  I want to "Thank" you for arranging for Gunnar to attend our April meeting.  I got to know Gunnar back in 1967 when he was hanging around Pentonville.  He and I went to a couple Hare Scrambles together that fall.  I remember very well that at one of those races, Gunnar was warming up his Husky and sheared a flywheel key.  I borrowed a puller from Eldon Barone, who was my Millwright Apprentice at Ford at the time, and guess what:  During the race Gunnar was lapping Eldon and accidently ran over his leg/foot and broke his ankle.  Eldon told his boss when he came back to work that it was all my fault.  Gunnar is a fine gentleman and friend and I look forward to seeing him again at the meeting.  Al

Penton Talk / R.I.P. Charlie Hawk
April 03, 2011, 09:39:02 PM
Charlie Hawk---What a guy he was.  I raced against him a couple times in 1960.  He rode a 650 cc Matchless and I was on my Triumph.  I cant remember seeing him again until the late sixties at a couple different Enduros.  I never met up with him again until around 2003 or 2004 at the Museum motorcycle shows and/or Hall of Fame Induction ceremonies.  In my opinion, Charlie was a very "down to earth" guy.  He seemed to always have a story to tell me.  I really appreciate having known Charlie and I will miss the occasional meetings with him.  May he rest in peace.  Al Born

Penton Talk / Appreciation
February 12, 2008, 08:17:57 PM
My "Thanks" also go out to Paul for all the work and worrying he did towards making our day at the AMA Museum.  I dont think Paul lost any weight over the event but I'm sure he gained a few gray hairs as he was very concerned that things go just right, as they did.  For about a month before that meeting, if our phone rang any time after 7:00 p.m., Margie would say:  you may as well answer it because its likely Paul and most of the time it was.  It really was great to see Dallas after all those years. I'm sure that having Pentons 1, 2, and 3 there made his day, month and year.  Thanks to Dallas and Dale too, as well as Kalman for his wonderful presentation. Also I want to thank Toni/Gary for the beautiful cakes (what an honor) and for all the pizza that was provided by the Buehners and for all who donated items for the door prizes (see Feb. minutes). And, what would we do without the Guthries???? I would like to remind all members that Paul does not only excel at making things happen at the Museum meeting but at all of our events.  Most of all, I'm thankful that God has given John Penton good health so that he is still able to travel and be with us for all of the Penton family reunions that we have.  Big Al

Say Rainman,  could that be the Bill Haas from Rhode Island or I think he was from Rhode Island??????If it is, I spent a week or more at Daytona with he and Roger Crump who was a flat tracker and Bill helped Roger a lot with his engine work.  If that is the one , I would like to hear from him again as we have lost touch.  Al Born

I am anxious to see the Penton article in the VMX magazine, but I have seen all of Randy's calendars and they get better every year.  Thanks to Ken and Randy.  Al Born
