Penton Talk / Only two more,,,
June 27, 2004, 12:42:17 PM
I may be wrong, but isn't the difference in numbers the diffenece between POG membership and POG FORUM membership?  That means 600 Forum members haven't yet joined up.  Which they should.  I just did, and the info I got was great, plus I got the ISDT DVD, which was also great.  Come on people, step right up and join, you won't regret it.

Hey Bill, Hopefully I'll see you this Monday or Tues, when you get back fom Portland.  Thom and I were talking and if Lynn can bring the bike, we could load it up and maybe meet you half way before we swing back North.  We are still working out the details to get us to Idaho. But there should be a way to get all this to work. Terry

Hey Lynn,
Thom and I were just talking and we think maybe we could make it over there  for a Tues. ride. We would leave here Mon at O-dark-00 (4:00am) and be there by 4:00pm.  If we could find a place nearby to camp, we would have it made in the shade. Ride all day Tues, Whine (me, not Super Rev.) all the way home on Wed.  Let us know how to contact you when you get there. Terry

Dang!  I'm going to be on a small island in S. Puget Sound the weekend before with the family, and a bunch of friends who coach Special Olympic X-C skiing with us.  Next week we'll be in So Oregon for 5 days. I didn't know you were coming so soon.
And Mid-Ohio is out for both of us....time and budgetary concerns.  But, we are planning on OK for the ISDT-RR.  My wife has family in the area (OK City and D-FW) so we will try to kill a whole flock with a single stone.  Sound like you will have a blast, though.  Of course we will expect the slide show and loads of amusing anecdotes from your adventures. HI Lynn,  I was talking to Thom today about the possibility of meeting you in Idaho, he liked the idea, especially when I pointed out to him that the 1000 miles was a round trip figure.  So we might give it shot.  Let us know when you'll be there and we'll try to figure a way to hook up with you guys.  We don't need much of an excuse to go ride, but to go somewhere new, meet someone new, yahooo adventure time.  I don't know if I'll have my scrambler ready by then but I'll give it a good shot.[8]  And maybe Thom will have the transmission woes worked out on his 400.  Terry

Okie Penton or Pentons of Texas (POT) just dosn't sound right.
On the other hand, Lone Star Pentons, does.  You and Ron would be quite a team.:D

Penton Talk / My Country is....
May 18, 2004, 03:49:26 PM
Larry, I agree, for years I have said that if everybody, thought like me, looked like, acted like me....I would have to shoot me, out of sheer boredom.  I even think there is room on this forum for a political thread or two.  After all, we do have the power to select or not to select what we read here.  I am able listen and to respect someone's views without agreeing with them.  I don't think there is much of chance of this forum becoming a politcal one.  But we are affected by politics.  I think we have all seen riding areas closed for what seemed to be political reasons. So I think, a thread or 2, off topic is OK, I can always skip reading them.
And actually, I was feeling more or less the same way DKWRACER was feeling, and it was nice to know I wasn't alone. Terry

I don't think that is a rant or a rave, but more of a plea.  I can't imagine any of us who are not affected by recent events and feeling some kind of pain.  It's natural to seek out friends in hard times.  I think of this as a happy place to go to, but it shouldn't entirely exclude the rest of the world and what's happening in it.  Sometimes acknowledging the crummier things in life helps us appreciate the good things: friends and interests and expressing the joy of both.

Thanks John.
Mine is definitely going to be a rider, too.  I am leaning towards a Mikuni though.  Thom's (Tomale) mc5 has a Mikuni and seems to perform better on the tight trails and just about anything else he can throw at it.  It has a nice smooth power curve. I might borrow his old Bing to keep the budget down to get it running.  He also has the stock mc5 pipe that I may use for a while for the same reasons. But, ultimately I want it to be as original as possible.  I just don't want to spend so much that I'm afraid to play with it.[8D] I'm not starting a museum, but I do want to respect it's bloodlines.  The more used parts I can find means I won't have to skimp on the important stuff. IE, getting it on the trail.  I can always upgrade later.

Penton Talk / built for champions
May 08, 2004, 11:43:35 AM
Thom was more excited by the T-shirt than the big trophys he had won.  Me, on the other hand, will probably have to stare at the back of that shirt every time Thom and I go riding.  It'll be there, rubbing it in.  "Built for Champions", "Built for Champions"  neener, neener, neener.  The only good news, it'll be to far away for me to read....until he stops to wait for me.
ps I am now officially a member of the club..my '74 250 Hare/scrambler got here yesterday, in 5 boxes, care of UPS.  The driver was looking at me funny as I danced around, yelling "my Penton is here, my Penton is here, I'm Somebody!" like Steve Martin in The Jerk.  Now all I need is a carb, a pipe, a side cover or 2, and this lamp and this chair.
