Welcome to a great place crusty.  You can learn alot from these people here.  The answers you seek are on the home page,  as for the year you need all the numbers from the neck and the right side of the engine.  Then look under production years.  Then go to suppliers and find Alan Buehner (top of list) and give him a call for the books.  Good luck and have alot of fun.
P.S.  good job on the great find

Tim,
The Sachs rebuilder is Doug Wilford. He is a hourly man, and from what I have read and heard, the only person for the job.  Search for his name and send him a email.

Penton Talk / Gas vs. diesel
May 13, 2004, 06:39:11 PM
I have a 2000 ford f350 with the 7.3 power stroke.  I get about 20 mpg,  which I found was better than my f150 gas burner.  Diesel here in MO is $1.63, very nice compared to the rest of the states.  It is expensive to start with, but in the long run well worth the money.

Rob,
Motorcyclist June 1975  has the 400 mint in it.  Great read,  tests against the Maico, Husky, Bultaco, Rokon.

Penton Talk / Who recovers seats?
February 08, 2004, 05:20:19 PM
I don't know Rick but I have done upholstery for 22 years and can support the idea that it is hard to please everyone all the time.   I have had the opportunity to work on many types of seats and they are all different.  I am still working on getting the "Wassel" seat down pat for Dennis.  If anyone is interested in specifics, I would be happy to email pictures of seats with printing and without that I've done.

Penton Talk / 1975 Pentons

Kent,
I have a frame with the numbers 50584323 with nothing in it.  Are you doing these years because of the lay down shocks?  If so I have a 40473374 with the lay down shocks,  it is a 250.

Wanted / For Sale / WINTER PROJECTS
January 24, 2004, 11:52:03 PM
All most finished a early 74 175.  Will breath life in the next week or two.
Finishing up a late 74 250, aluminum seat base, foam and seat cover,  kick starter.  Soon new 520 chain and sprockets.
Then a late 74 400 mint. Needs paint and seat.  Right now it has a clark tank and a 79 seat.  Feels great because it sits up higher. It is a exracer with green markings in the wheels and a small hole drilled in the head and cylinder for the wire tie.  If only it could take to me about it's past.  I wasn't it first, but will be it's last.  Some one put alot of time in it because of the fabricated chain guard, rear brake, front sprocket cover,  folding cluth lever, all out of aluminum.  I could keep going on but I wont.  Just one more thing,  these are the best bikes ever.  Rode many makes, but never again.  :DGO PENTON.  James from MO:D

Maybe it's me, but it is strange that a PENTON dealer would tell a guy that it was a 250,  when it has a white tank of the mint,it even has the right angle pipe of the 400.
I emailed on the 13 for the frame and engine numbers,  he said, at work now will email tonight.  Still waiting,  emailed last night for reminder,  still nothing.  And why does the frame look black?
